    spc410dn

hi, i am having a problem with a spc410dn printer, its leaving a blank space,(void) about 2mm wide, running from top to bottom of print.it only happens with black.on arrival at customers, i was sure it was dirt on the k slit glass but after cleaning its still there.this void seems to move left and right after a few prints. i have seen a problem like this on mpc 2500, caused by the laser shutter,i noticed both engines, are simular in design.
printer has 125k black and 32k colour on it and k pcu was changed 10k ago.
any ideas greatly appricated as i'm not trained on this box and its the only one we have out there.

Kind of weird, moving left to right, sounds like there might be foreign material wrapped around the charge roller or floating around in the PCU. I've never had a 410 pcu apart, but it looks like if you pop a few plastic tabs you might be able to get a peek inside it. Another thought. Pull out the transfer unit and give it a visual inspection.

When you say "top to bottom" do you mean, operator to non operator or do you mean lead to trail edge?

Pull the dev unit and see if something is blocking the doctor blade. If so, pull a pc of paper between it and the mag to clear.

I'm with Jomama on this. If it's moving then most like there is something chunky and loose in the dev unit. It will move along the mag roll with the auger pushing it.

definitely check dev mag roller, ya can normally see the void on the roller itself if theres something blocked between it and the blade.

Come to think of it, Iv'e had contaminant in a CL 7200 dev unit that caused that problem. I think these other guys are on the right track, but you will still have to figure out how to disassemble the the PCU as the drum and development unit are one assembly. You cant even see the mag roller on the unit.

thanks for all the input guys, i didnt want to take apart the pcu when i was on site,in case i could not reassemble it correctly/break something.i have ordered a new k pcu, but will strip the old one first before replacing it on site next week. it only has 10k on it,but i will be very supprised if its not the culprit.i'll post back with results.
