    mp 4000 sc-304 code

Hi, I have been working on this problem and I'm about to do a full pm dev unit, drum and blade. I saw some discussion about an ID sensor and a drum ground plate, I was wondering where they are located? Are they both located on the drum unit?

Yes those items are within the drum/dv unit

Here is what the manual says about SC304

      Charge roller bias correction leak

The charge roller bias correction is performed twice even if the maximum charge roller bias (-2000V) is applied to the roller.

      ID sensor defective

      Worn charge roller

       Charge roller damaged

you're right silver..,u need to replace the dev unit but to tackle the problem immediatly you need to clean the mag. roller and the pcu recycling pathway.
replace the developer and do the following settings,
          sp 2201-01 (dev bias)550-660
sp 2201-02 (dev bias for i.d sensor pattern)400-500
          gud luck

Had this problem yesterday! Machine was also giving either bands or full background on copies. Stayed the same and actually got much worse after a full PM!

Pull the drum unit and look in the cavity towards the backplate of the machine, look to the left of the drum drive shaft, you wil see a hole, then to the left of that, the charge contact spring. Is the spring pushed into the recepatcle? If so, using small pliers, pull the end of the spring towards you. This will ensure good charge contact and may help prevent the code. I must say that I had another tech call me today with the background problem and my fix didn't work! His dev unit was almost seized and he ordered a replacement.
