[Dead] Toner light on an old Ricoh FT 4222 - please help!!!

Folks, I have an old Ricoh FT 4222 copier which has the toner light on. I replaced the toner cartraige and the light still stays on. Does any one know where the sensor is for the toner light or why this light may be stuck on? Thank you to all, especially you seasoned Ricoh service folks, for any info you can provide.

Could be a defective TD-sensor, or bad developer. Call a museum to see if they want to have this old machine .

LOL Thanks for the chuckle after a tough week.

One thing you may want to check is that when the toner is installed, the square plastic tab with the arrow points to the right at 3 o'clock.
It was common on this model for the toner to be installed wrong so the cartridge opening didn't line up with the toner hopper.

The foregoing assumes that the toner was shaken and the drive cog was turned by hand prior to installing the cartridge and that the sealing strip was removed completely and that the toner cartridge wasn't stored in a car trunk for the last 20 years

Bad TD sensor, old dev, bad clutch, stripped dev drive gears are all among the many possibilities for the add toner light to stay on.

        Hey Folks,
Thanks for the info and the laughs. I have a 78-year old boss that just won't let anything go. Just trying to give him some happiness by getting this old machine going again. Thanks again for the help. I knew some one out there would know what to do.

You can also try to disassemble the development and check the integrity of the rear gears of the toner supply that I have often found detached from the axis
