Aficio 6513 Toner Scatter and Tire Marks

The copier (Aficio 6513) was working fine when the "Toner Low" message for magenta appeared. I ran a couple hundred more copies and then replaced the magenta toner.

After installing the new magenta toner, the copies were smudged and dirty a reddish color, which seemed like a lot of toner had been dumped. Once I cleaned out the bulk of the excess toner from the paper transfer, I was still noticing toner "scatter" on some of the copies.

And, I was getting a SC385 error after each print session (when the copier ran its self check) So, I cleaned out the toner revolver and re-installed all the toner cartridges and I pulled out the TD sensor, cleaned the whole assembly and replaced it. No more SC385 error, but still getting toner scatter and on top of that, now I'm getting "tire marks" on the bottom of every 8-1/2 x 11" sheet. (toward the front of the copier). One set of tire marks on each 8-1/2 x 11". They are about an inch long on the bottom of the 8-1/2 x 11, but I watched the image transfer belt during operation and noticed the marks on the belt and they extend beyond the end of the 8-1/2 x 11" (toward the front of the copier).

Are the "tire marks" and the toner scatter two different problems?

Did I mess something up when I cleaned or re-installed the TD sensor assembly? Or, is the drum (or the image transfer belt) not being cleaned off thoroughly during operation?

I would really appreciate any help or suggestions at all. Thanks for reading this. I know I got a little long-winded.

If I remember correctly you need to pay attention to the cleaner unit. If it isn't set properly you get tracks on your prints. To avoid a future toner bomb don't shake the toner right before installing it, if you feel the need to shake it wait a couple of minutes before you install it.

      Thanks for the info luig!

I'll check out the cleaner unit. Hopefully that will fix the problem. I really appreciate your input.

These machines need thorough cleaning every call. Sounds like U should check the ITB cleaning unit as it cams the Cblade and lower seal in and out to the ITB. Also the connector on the front of the revolver is a known cause for TD and ID errors.

This old dog is temperamental when you add toner. There is a slide plate that can stick open or half closed when you turn the cartridge lever when you add. Then every rotation of the revolver unit flings more toner everywhere. There are 4 TD sensors, one on each developer unit. The sensor in the middle of the revolver is the toner end. The sensor under the drum unit is the ID sensor which causes the 385 code. The harness that you have to unplug when you take the front plate off does go bad and cause 385 codes. but you can get these codes from leaving the drum out too long also. The smudge could be from the drum cleaner or the transfer belt cleaner,or it could be in the revolver unit inside where you have to remove a DV unit to get in there with a vacuum. Good luck and pray for an upgrade

Excellent info.. Thanks tonerbomb & kittymor

Thanks for the info y'all. Kittymor, I've prayed and prayed and every day when I get to the shop the "old dawg" 6513 is still there - always needing some TLC or just a little encouragement.

But seriously, do you have suggestions for a good dependable upgrade? Thanks again for the valuable info - it's greatly appreciated.

The Ricoh 'upgrade' would be the 3260 or 5560. They do have a few issues with the fusers but look good and run fairly well. Not 'professional color' but 'business color". What brands do you usually deal with? Xerox has a docucolor 252 that has a fiery that can handle most color applications. The fiery that you can get for the ricoh, E7000 has 'issues' from what I've heard. I'll keep you in my prayers I have 2 6513's left in the field and the sales person is all over working on upgrades....hooray!
