    feeding unit assembly (MPC 3000)

Guys, I have a MPC 3000 which jams always in the feeding unit section. As the paper goes up, a big sound is coming in the machine. I thought the problem is in the rollers so I replaced them all yet same problem is occurring. I changed the clutch, sensors in the feeding section and the torque limiter but the problem is not yet resolved. Then I exchanged the feeding unit assembly and the jamming issue was fixed. I am wondering why the feeding unit becomes defective. As I compared the defective one to the other feeding unit it seems there is no problem at all.

Have you encountered this kind of problem? If so, can you tell me where is the problem in the feeding unit assembly?

usually, i have found that if there are any one-way gears or bearings, that is what fails.

      Hi there!
jonhiker is right! After an average time the onewaybearings and (!) the shafts get worse. Often helps cleaning but with average age change the parts- OK!

Guys, the only one-way bearing I have seen in the feed assembly is on the feed roller and that roller is new.It puzzles me so much how this feed unit goes wrong. In fact, two machines (MPC 3000 and MP4000B) of the customer in the same location and at the same day have the same problem. Replacing the feeding unit assembly fixed the problem. How did it happen???It is my first time to encounter that kind of problem.

The feed units in these models are fragile and don't take kindly to customers abusing them. Sometimes, the only fix is to replace the entire feed head to fix certain faults. I carry one of each as car stock now.
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

          Hit it.

I've also found that the drive shaft on the rear of the feed unit (with the pin) gets gunked up. I've been through the same thing and compared a new unit to the jamming one. The new one will spin easily while the faulty one has definite binding. I've cleaned and lubed them with success, but this is just one example of what can cause a problem.

Bulletin 051 from the MP4000 should fix your problem. Basically the same feed units in all the non-console b&w and colour. I have had this happen on several different machines. My fix was to take up the slack on the bushing by putting spacers behind the bushing at the rear. This bulletin will work better.
