mp 3010 jamming at fuser entrance

i have a mp 3010. it jams at the fuser entrance throwing up an jam code 12=paper exit sensor. it seems like the fuser unit is not driving the paper into the fuser unit at all. paper just stops at the entrance all curled up. so when i reinstall the fuser unit it works fine for a bit once it gets going. the gear on the hotroller is fine. fuser unit has been refurbished.

The leaf spring that pushes out the fuser drive gear in the main frame can get lazy and not reliably engage the fuser.
