MPC2500 dark top and bottom but light in the middle

Anyone seen this? as in the title an MPC2500 that is intermittantly dark at the top and bottom of the page (as in normal darkness) but goes faint in the middle of the page. Its only on black - I replaced blk pcu, dev unit, transfer belt assy, transfer belt cleaning blade and fuser. It was still intermittantly light so i removed the laser shutter completely. It didnt come back but im not convinced...

I think the next step is to change the laser? Anyone else come across this?

upgrade firmware. It's for the laser windows good function

Yeah I knew about the firmware - but dosnt that just change the timing of the laser shutter opening and closing? which I took off anyway?

Did you put the bushing back in that holds the dev. unit and pcu together

If you already took the laser shutter out you are done. I had the same problem with the shutter and i took it off.
Do not worry, it will work fine. You just have to clean the laser unit more often.
You still can upgrade firmware...

i think you dont have to that since it will just aggravate the problem because dust will go inside the laser unit.

Cheers guys. ive taken the laser shutter off a few of these now when ive had weird problems with printing...i dont think it hurts it, just need to remember to clean the laser lenses at each visit. Ill post results if the fault comes back.

taken the laser shutter off to cure a couple of weird PCQ faults. Found out later that there is a cam that opens the laser shutter that goes faulty. havent been back to the machines in question to have a look but just thought i'd mention it.

For this reason I say that is should be cleaning more often...
Like mabawser said the problem is with that cam. I am not sure but i think it is a faulty solenoide

now you are giving him more job and prolong the his agony of going back more times to the customer to clean instead of finding the right solution. if the solenoid is the problem then make it sure that's the thing if not then find for other cause.

CAUSE

Software bug: The laser optics shutter does not open correctly.

SOLUTION

Production line

The engine firmware was modified to correct this symptom.
New version:

V1.11.01

Applied from: March 1

st 2007 production (RAI)

In the field

If this symptom occurs on the affected units, update the engine firmware to

V1.11.01

Affected Units

This symptom may occur on machines produced between August 2007 and February 28,

2007.

Had similar problem with the shutter om a mpc 2500, only faded from top to the middle.. firmware upgrade did not solve the problem...Removed the shutter..
