    mp2000l / ld120d ricoh's (lanier badged) skewing

    hi all

just need a thought and advice on this. have the above machines where they skew the image. it isnt paper path issues or laser issues as when i send a print to it they come out spot on. copying though is a different matter. off the glass or through the adf the image is skewed. up to 5 to 7mm on one machine. i have checked the scanner alignment as per manual and all SEEMS good. the only way i have been able to correct it (by experimenting) is by 'twisting' mirror 1/lamp assy out of wack by the said above measurements. this sort of thing doesnt rest comfortably with me doing that, so just wondering if anyone else has had this problem. have spoke to tech support and they advised of sort of the same thing due to people maybe pushing books down on the glass to get rid of the spine shading, but the scanner doesnt look warped. any ideas?

Try adjusting paper buckle in SP6 (Peripherals). More buckle results in less skew.

      hey eric
thanx for the reply. much appreciated, but that wont help as it doesnt skew when printing and the image skews even off the glass which doesnt use the doc feeder. but if i'm wrong please feel free to correct me

Oh, I just saw the skew is also from the glass, well forget the buckle!

You can also try to lift the whole scanner at the left side. When people are leaning on the machine, the scanner could be bend a bit.

A spirit level will tell you if the scanner's warped.

You need to lift the scanner to cure this. They suffer from this problem.

lifting the scanner is basically what tech support said. buuuuuuutttt i am a smidge confused with the 'lifting the scanner' scenario. If i lift it then the whole assembly comes off its tracks; so the whole 'hold done one side, lift the other' doesnt quite work...................or am i thinking and observing in 2 demensions

the way i understand it if they are leaning on the machine then they would twist the scanner, hence the need to twist it back, but the scanner doesnt seem to be twisted according to the frame of the machine and measurement i have taken. it is a mongrel of a fault

                    hi all
thanx for your help on this. you were all correct. people leaning on the frame and twisted it. i was just thinking of the actual scanner itself, not the whole frame. sorry for my misunderstanding. finally saw it when i was crouching near the floor doing something else and looked at the machine. woohoo they are out of my hair now. feel like a bit of a dumbass though

Good to see it sorted. I have heard of this issue plenty of times but never seen it occur. Don't feel like a dumbass about it though. A dumbass wouldn't have posted back with the fix.

The front left of platen is sagging, Either lift front left corner of platen by hand ( just a jerk movement ) or used Pry bar to lift it. I always have an 12" pry bar in my tool case.
