Have noticed a few post lately regarding cleaning mag rolleers. I just wanted to know what methods techs are using? I have tried the wire brush and just scrubbing with paper, but the best method I have found is using a paste type metal polish like Autosol on a soft cloth once the mag roller has been vacuumed off. I also use this same polish on facing and all other transfer belt rollers.

Re: Mag roller cleaning
Aye, pot scourers all the way. For transfer and fusers rollers a slight dip in IPA solvent or rubber cleaner works a treat. It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

Re: Mag roller cleaning
For mag rollers it just depends how crappy they are if they aren't bad ill just use crumpled paper, otherwise I have a small shoe polish brush that has bristles like a toothbrush basically they are soft but stiff enough to clean the roller, if they are really junky i will use the green scour pad lightly, otherwise I dont have to many issues with them. On the smaller units with the transfer belt that has the 3 metal shafts inside I will take them apart remove the center small rod and clean them with goof off its a little strong it will melt the plastic if you spill so i just dab some on a rag and rub them clean I havent come across anything that will remove the pasted on toner besides this method, i will follow up with a little alcohol to wipe off excess goof off then make sure they are dry before putting the transfer belt on. As far as fuser cleaning rollers I have never had to clean one I just replace them at PM and they usually go from PM to PM without any issues, if it fails before there is usally other fuser parts that fail also so I just replace we arent stingy on parts if somethings bad you just put a new one in and save yourself the trouble.Comment

Re: Mag roller cleaning
I like the paper method myself, with a little bit of used dev for grit. But I do carry a scotch brite with me for those heavy jobs."See if you can rent a spring hook and a phillips screwdriver it will make your life that much easier..."Comment

Re: Mag roller cleaning
Chalk another one up for the green pot scourer, but you have to pay the extra money for a quality 3M Scotchbrite. If you use metho with the cheap ones you find the dye runs and you end up with green hands. At least 50% of IT is a solution looking for a problem.Comment

Re: Mag roller cleaning
Normally I use a piece of extra fine aluminium oxide cloth backed sandpaper.
Takes minimal effort and leaves a polished like finish because the grain is so fine.
The cloth backing makes it flexible and very hard wearing, even when wet.
*Also works well to clean snake skin oil rollers and bare metal cleaning rollers.- Knowledge not shared, is eventually knowledge that becomes lost... like tears in the rain.

Color is not 4 times harder... it's 65,000 times harder. They call it "TECH MODE" for a reason. I have manual's and firmware for ya, course... you are going to have to earn it.

Re: Mag roller cleaning
Reading with interest all these suggestions, but one important thing got my curiosity that nobody mentions. Are you all talking of cleaning the roller stripped out, in which case you can be as harsh as you want, or, about cleaning the mag roller in situ, in which case you have to be ULTRA careful not to damage the end seals and not to run any liquid inside the dev unit ???Comment
