    @ sandmanmac:

So what? Of course all functions might hick up if something floods in from the network since every function must be processed by the controller. That's why it still would make sense to unplug the network if the copy function freezes or test the machine in some other network enviroment (easiest way: direct connection with notebook).

Ye before you upgrade the firmware format the hdd and test, im pretty sure that these mc work faster before the new firmware was available

As mrwho said the bug in the firmware slows these down so format and be done with it all, also make sure to copy network settings

HDD are very strange. On a MPC2500 the disc is not good and the only problem is that the start up is very long, only this. On a MPC2050 the machine is ready but it doesn't respond to the commands. In both case I had no error codes and the discs weren't to loud because the dB of the machines were very high. But the HDD was the problem

            Hi

Does anyone know which firmwares did not have the "BUG" being referred to, that slows the machine down?

I would turn bck my firmware in a second, if I can confirm that it will fix this damn issue!

              Just a quick update:

We have gotten hold of a same model machine (ex customer upgrade) that my I.T. guys could not "break" and we compared the firmware revisions - much older on the OK machine.

So I am back to the firmware revision theme.

Got hold of most of the "old" firmware revisions except for System/Copy which I need D0395521H for.

                I would try things like:

-- See if going to User Tools, Printer Features, System and changing Memory Priority from Frame to Font or vice-versa helps

-- As usual make sure you're at the latest firmware, drivers, etc.

-- Try printing from a local workstation with a TCP/IP port set for either RAW 9100 or LPR printing with "lp" && byte counting. Disable SNMP status checks either way

-- There are also various slow print articles on the TSSC GKB. Looking over there may help.

                  Thanks for the feedback.

I have tried all the possible solutions that Ricoh provides - have read all RTBs and Tech bulitins that have ANY bearing on slow printing.

What boggles me is that there are about 4 of these units that are sporadically doing this, and it seems to do it even when not connected to anything other than power as well - as when multiple copy and doc server jobs get released it slows down that you can't even get a meter print out without waiting up to 4 minutes for anything to happen. It just says "printing" on the screen without any action!

As I said in my last post, we have now come across one with older firmware that does not do this - my feeling is that it is firmware related, but that the bug is in the newer firmware, as all the on site machines have the latest firmware on offer (as Ricoh will not look at a complaint otherwise).

Will keep you posted on my findings.

Hi I have had 2 of these ... one was still under a year old , Ricoh sent there top tech support out .. after much head scratching and board changing .. they just swapped the box for a new one :-) ...
but i now have another ( in my workshop ) that i kick every time i walk past .. its still shining though ( bloody should be gold leaf for the money and time we have spent on it ..

we have .. new HDD , new Memeory .. latest firmware , new fuser , new bicu .. still does it ... and YES in copy mode as well .

                    so if someone has the answer .. P L E A S E S H A R E ....

Try connecting the machine to an UPS , in this cases usually its a"wild" solution )

                        @ Whitecat:

                        Thanks for the suggestion!

I considered this until be picked up the machine and managed to repeat the problem at our workshop, which is not on the same grid as the customer location.

                        @Big Durbs:

I will post as soon as I have done more testing. I'm holding thumbs that the firmware roll-back may have solved this one. This would mean that I could possibly solve 3 more I have in the field!

I was wondering if you had a java card in the machine. I had a 2500 one time that had similar problems and narrowed down to a failing java card. I removed java card and machine ran fine. Replaced java card with new one and machine is running fine.

Um, for what it is worth, this statement alone seems to isolate the problem to the stability of the electrical supply from the wall sockets these machines are plugged into. An unstable supply can cause all manner of undesired operations.
In the best of all worlds, those machines should have a dedicated circuit to plug into, with line conditioners to help mitigate wall voltage fluctuations from storms or construction or stuff. If a dedicated circuit isn't possible, while the problem won't be totally fixed, a line conditioner will help a lot with line voltage fluctuations, or even a good surge suppressor will help some.

think may have found the issue , turns out .. if you turn the "toner near end " down to low the machine will sit and run for ages
but not ask for more toner ...

i have a machine that was set to 5mg . took it up to 10mg and it was all good again :-)
