Same on DF and platen glass?
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

    Hit it.

I would agree, PDF compression can be a bit troublesome. I take it the customer is measuring the scans to see if they match?

I have seen this before and unfortunately there is nothing you can do about it. As I remember it is compression problem. Doesnt bother most people but there is always the picky ones.

I tell the customers that acrobat and most other programs includes a certain print margin - end of discussion ....I actually think it's not necessarily a lie.

Edit: If I try and print a PDF (picked a SM) I can see a margin in the preview of adobe reader

You can try scanning a ruler with a certain DPI setting, then loading it into a image editing software and see if the dots per inch setting of the machine fits to the ruler (better check the distance/pixel count over a few inch to get more exactly results). You can use irfanview (freeware) to select/mark an area of the image and get the resolution of your selcted displayed instantly.

That sounds like a lot of work with no solution. I like your first suggestion better. i.e. "Thats the way it is, get used to it"

Figuring this out is a matter of a minute or two - the answere of the results will either proof that the machine does nothing wrong (something we can actually demonstrate to the customer) OR there is indeed some non-minor change of scale made by the machine (then we better have to stick with what we've told so far^^). I'll check it after the weekend - I don't have a ricoh at home yet^^
