MP171 Can ping machine but no printing

Hi

I have a MP171 that i can ping to and login into WIM, but i can not print to it. I have tried a number of drivers with no luck. I have also done a memory clear of the printer.

Any ideas?

Dumb question: Do you by any chance have authentication turned on for printing only?

Try changing the port to LPR instead of RAW. The queue name will be lp

Is that a machine with GDI (MP171LN) or GW Controller (MP171SPF)? The GDI Controller needs a different Driver. In case you can't print with the GW Version + proper Driver, you might have some kind of User Code/authentification active like mentioned by mrwho.

Unless it's the SPF model then it needs to use the DDST driver rather than the RPCS. I'm not 100% certain but it may not support PCL as standard, like the MPc2030.

I had one that wouldn't print on the clients network.. ended up having to turn the auto detect off on the netwrok speed and manually select it at 100MB... just a possibility.

The MP 171SPF does not support the DDST driver, only PCL 5/XL and PostScript (with the option installed). There is no RPCS driver for this model either. This is a real machine unlike the MP 2000.

Thanks for the replies.It is a MP171SPF.No user codes are enabled. ( the machines gives and error after a print job is send)The access control is disable.Have not checked peer- to-peer printing. Will do first thing tomorrrow morning.

I'd say that's some important data worth sharing. What error does it give? Are people possibly sending print jobs with a different paper size than the one on the paper tray? Maybe the jobs are being sent to the manual feed?

Yes, I'd say that the error is probably the reason for it not working.

Sorry, you didn't mention what specific model of the 171 series we are dealing with in your initial post.

Have you try printing with your notebook via direct connection - just to be shure it's not some weird issue with the customers IT?

You can try performing an NV ram/Adress bock backup (if needed) and then clear the NV-Ram memory (maybe starting NOT with an "all clear" but with everything except engine). In case it doesn't do the triock you can quickly restore the data with your backup.

OK, should probably have checked it first. The machine is printing through USB.
Just getting an printing-error in the print jobs.
