    Postscript SD

Can a postscript SD card be transferred from one machine to another as long as they use the same model machine?

Yes, but it must be properly uninstalled from the original machine first, not just removed.

If I'm not mistaken, that procedure varies by model.

If you simply yank the card out and put it in another machine, it will become quite unusable.

I've had a few come through our processing center that way.

I can only find installing not uninstalling. I'm looking at a C2050, do you have a reference on this or another model?

I've only done it once (recently), on an MP2550B. I realized after the fact that client required PS, so I sourced a machine that had the PS option uploaded to the card already. I'd actually already installed the PPD's on a couple of Macs and then couriered the card to the client, and had them swap it, and everything was fine
Might not be the recommended procedure, but like you, I had no other instructions.

            OK, now I'm confused.

I specifically remember having two MPC6000 installations where the message on the LCD said that the card had been used.

When I called the support desk, I was told that it was because the card hadn't been properly uninstalled from the original machine.

Maybe that was because they had been removed with the power on - I don't know.

I've never done an unistall on Ricoh PS cards, unless there were other app's merged to the PS card.

                Yes

As far as I'm aware there is no install or un-install procedure apart from sticking the PS3 SD card in the correct slot.

You can merge (move) some* other SD card applications onto the Postscript3 SD card, but not the other way around as it will break the copyright protection of the PS3 SD card (a expensive mistake).

Of course if you have merged a app onto the PS3 card you should move it back to it's original SD card before putting the PS3 card into another supported model.

*But always check the documentation first as appi move operations can vary between models and some models require firmware updates to fix merge bugs.

Thanks for the reply Cipher. The damn things are too expensive to experiment with, I think the next time I get one in from the field I will try it tho. (Maybe)

Yeah I have screwed up a PS3 SD card merge before (shit happens).

On some models the sd card slots are reversed (e.g the top sd card slot is not necessary slot 1).

                    Well I didn't notice lol.

To the best of my knowledge, which isn't much I'm afraid, the installation procedure consists of "Put card into slot and turn machine on."

I can't find the uninstallation instructions anywhere

They just called it wrong way - MERGE not installation But your knowledge is great - take the SD card cover off and stick it there fast... and will enjoy the consequences - printing heaven hehehe

I'd expected more from you than this!

If there's a Postscript SD card in, for example, an MPc4500 and it hasn't had any application merging performed on it, you can simply remove it and put it into another MPc4500.

                            It's that simple really.

If you really want to be sure that it works, try it. If you print out a config page from Printer SP mode then Postscript will appear in the list of installed printer languages.

Let's say that I have 2 bags, one of which has an apple in it. If I want the apple to be in the other bag, I take it out and put it into the desired bag.
