Uhh...no kidding, if we all worked for dealers, and had all the manuals, yeah, you would have to be on 'bath salts' to go and pay for one! That's absolutely NOT what I'm talking about here.
    Let me provide an example....
Let's say you were a struggling independent, like so many of us here are, and you had a client that had a Kyocera machine that they asked you to fix, and you had never even opened a cover on the machine before and it needed a fuser, and drum rebuild ASAP
$12 is a pretty damn good deal.

Scrapping the Kyocera would be a cheaper option for the customer.

Where I live most other dealers would help you out for free with manuals since you'd probably buy the needed parts from them. Sometimes it's a good idea not to try finding everything in the world wide web if you can call somebody. I think it's generally important to know a few contacts and keep up with other techs if you don't work for a big company that provides you with everything.

Even cheaper if you consider that you'll probably use said manual on more than one machine.

              Re: Manual desired......

I've gotten free manuals before from manufacturers, parts distributors, and competitor authorized dealers in my area before. The argument usually goes like this...

Me: Well sir/ma'am I'm looking to get about two thousand dollars or so in parts but I need the part numbers from the manual...that usually gets me the manual...and I usually end up buying parts from the person that gave them to me.

I like the newer concept of having the service manual be on the machine...until the machine is so freakin dead that you can't access it.

A searchable pdf file is a must for me...makes life sooo much easier.

              ----

Is Paul still doing that once a year free manual day thing?

                Ooo-errr, hope I haven't opened a can of worms!

I certainly wasn't "bitchin" about anything.
I was not in any desperate rush to get a service manual.
It's human nature of course to try and get something cheaper (or for free) if possible.
And as already stated, I have no objection to anyone selling service manuals, and have indeed purchased them in the past when needed.

                  Re: Manual desired......

Unfortunately this topic is a can-o-worms, through no fault of yours.

I personally consider manuals as tools required for the job, and in no way expect them to be given to me. Nor do I expect others to "borrow" my tools that I paid for.

You just happened to step right into that one. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
                  1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
                  2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
                  3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
                  4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
                  5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

There's also something to be said for providing manuals for free in retaliation to Paul's overzealous use of the negative rep power button.

                      That's karma for you.

Search the forum for any of the following keywords:
Paul, illegal, copyright infringement, spam, reputation, manuals, free, or profanity in just about any language.

You'll find this subject has been beaten to death, resurrected, and beaten some more. Also, "Beating a dead horse" is another phrase that has become fairly standard when it comes to Manuals4You.

Bottom line - if you don't want to buy Paul's manuals, don't. If you do have a need to shell out your hard earned cash to him, do the rest of us a favor and at least give him a hard time about it =)

Color is not 4 times harder... it's 65,000 times harder. They call it "TECH MODE" for a reason. I have manual's and firmware for ya, course... you are going to have to earn it.

"Wanna earn $13 the hard way...?" Caddyshack has been on IFC all week.

The automotive industry has software called ALLDATA. They offer repair/collision manual subscriptions for $175-$225 per month. Apply it to electronic repair manuals and you have a whole new business Paul.

Alldata licenses the info from its sources. Chilton and Haynes manuals are derived from an actual teardown of the vehicle in question.

I suspect to do something similar in the copy world would meet with obstacles.
