    [Error Code] Lanier LD145

This machine just came off of contract with Ricoh. It was throwing the errors for them and they came in and did a firmware upgrade and thought it was fixed. The problem came back and now even worse than before. It will complete 1 print job and throw an SC990. If you then turn off/on with the button on top of the machine it will pop an SC820. Then you have to turn it off at the main switch and it will come to ready and start all over again. If you check the error logs it shows the SC990 and SC820 but also a SC991 that never shows up on the display. This machine has a little over 1 million pages on it. The drum looks to be in decent shape. I cleaned sensors, swapped drum units with the machine upstair and still has the same error. I also tried SP2103 to see if that may change anything but still same errors.I then replaced the controller board. It seemed to fix it for the night but same errors came back.
    SC 820 Detail code=0612 Det 0002
    SC 990 Line 8575
    File ENGrocon.c
    SC991 line 1553
    File: copy: jcm_event_mcs.c
    v o

I will recheck these numbers as i scribbled them down on paper.
Both machines need the transfer belts rebuilt but the machine upstair (which has the worse transfer belt in it) is not throwing codes even after the drum unit swap.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you
    Derrick

      SC820:
The central processing unit returned an error during the self-diagnostic test.
      • Controller board defective
      • Software defective

      SC990:
The software attempted to perform an unexpected operation.
      • Software defective
      • Internal parameter incorrect
      • Insufficient working memory
When this SC occurs, the file name, address, and data will be stored in NVRAM. This information can be checked by using SP7-403. Note the
above data and the situation in which this SC occurs. Then report the data and conditions to your technical control center.

I don't see SC991 listed in the service manual.
As a troubleshooting measure, power unit down and disconnect the HDD (Hard Disc Drive). Try using the machine again with the HDD disconnected. Generally these type of errors would point to a faulty HDD. If it works fine the HDD disconnected, replace and format the HDD.

There is also a SLIM chance that it could be a bad stick of RAM, but is unlikely.

The SC 990 is pointing to procon which is process control. More than likely the drum patch isn't strong enough to read as the drum is degraded. More than likely a full drum and developer PM will do the machine a world of good. Also check and make sure that the cleaning spool in the top of the drum unit has good mylars and turns easily.

As i stated in the original post. Ricoh updated the firmware and it did nothing. I checked the hard drive yesterday and the error was still there. Everything is pointing to the drum so far.

Thank you.The drum seems to turn fine and i also tried the drum from the machine upstairs. I agree that so far everything points to drum. I went into the machine and checked the PM counter and it is overdue(in both machines). My question is this. Why are both drums throwing this code on the downstairs machine only. Also when i lower the ld power it throws a sc326. When i bring it back up i get the sc990. Is there potentially another problem as well as the weak drum?
I know it is not the hard drive as i ruled that out yesterday. I am not sure about memory yet or what other things may factor in.
My fear is that if i rebuild or pull a good working drum from another machine will the error go away or could i be wasting more time/money? Are there any SP's i should perform to increase my chances (even if i used a good used PCU/Developer)?

Swap the Ops panal with the working machine i'm sure ive had this problem and exchanging the ops panal PCB cured it.

Sorry! I don't normally "Skim Read" but obviously did then!

It looks like a "Software performance error" Which normally happens, as has been said, when one of the process control readings (VSP / VSG / VT) is out of spec due to old drum / dev, poor drum earth etc. Also check if the laser power readings, if they max out it can cause similar.

Do you have an SMC report with these readings?

Update: After trying the "common things" including replacing drum/developer i went back to do more digging and uncovered this in my reading.

Baphomet said in an earlier thread
                      ""
My machine is now having 6 of the 8 symptoms I have found for this. Sc990,SC322,SC326,random lines occasionally, Occasional no toner

I am going back to try to clean the door switch. Can anyone with experience telme how difficult it is to get to it? I looked briefly in the SM and could not find any detail on it at all(as i figured)
                      Thank you
