I've had a previous tech on a ricoh 700 put a longer screw in after replacing the cleaning blade, caused the blade to not spring up and make good contact with drum.

I always keep extra screws and clips of all sorts in my bag so i don't have to Jerry Rig things when you lose a clip or drop a screw.

But ya, if the replacement screw doesn't cause problems, your just being ANAL.

Remember the Konica 7115, when installing the optional print controller, if you screwed a longer screw over the parallel port, it was over?

you obviously must be rather.... I get yelled at all the time that i'm being too picky when not just the screws are missing, but the covers for the machine have been just left off and floating around behind the machine that is left to continue normal operations, exposed electronics etc.

Its just not the kind of world where people do things the right way the first time any more.

and to add about the c-clips... One of the techs i work with lost the c-clip in the machine... shrugged... then got another one and snapped it into place. The c-clip hasnt caused any issues but is probably still floating inside the main engine!

Its (the nervous tick) what i get for being a programmer in highschool.

Sounds like he's come to grips with the uncomfortable truth...a dropped c-clip doesn't want to be found, it's effectively transported itself to some Siberian cave. I once followed a falling clip to the carpet with my eyes...never found it. A prescription pill container full of such little metal tidbits = that much less time spent hair-pulling.

Nine times out of ten, it's in my pants cuff ... even if I dropped it in another city. Sometimes I get lucky by shining my flashlight at a low angle and watching for something shiny. If that doesn't work I start digging in the toolbag for a spare. I spend ten minutes maximum looking for the item unless the item is rare. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
            1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
            2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
            3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
            4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
            5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Anyone that has built R/C cars or aircraft before becoming a copier tech will know the finality of a screw dropped from bench height onto carpet. Dropping stuff onto grass when working outdoors is even worse!

Now we're just confusing a lazy tech with a tech who refuses to accept 25 screws on one freaking cover just because the Japanese built it that way.

                Work smart not hard.

This is a question to ask your partner. LOL
Color is not 4 times harder... it's 65,000 times harder. They call it "TECH MODE" for a reason. I have manual's and firmware for ya, course... you are going to have to earn it.

                        Re: Am I being anal?

If a screw came out of it, put it back in and use the correct one. It takes about ten seconds longer to put 'em all back in. The details (and electronics knowledge) are what seperate the men from the boys in this industry.

                          Re: Am I being anal?

my biggest pet peeve is when a tech strips a screw or uses the wrong freaking screw as in where a shouldered screw goes they put a reg screw easy to put proper screws in proper spots
