    HDD broke on MPC-2800 why?

I have change HDD on a MPC-2800 2 times. First time a new HDD, secondtime a old one that I had format on my computer.
The HDD get SC-998 after about 1 month it broke again and SC-998 appear.

I change HDD then format the HDD in the machine, and it work again.
What to do if it crash again? Change controller?

Make sure the Operator is shutting down the machine correctly Just Unplugging it can cause the HDD to Crash also check and update firmware 998 is a software crash iirc

I find if the machines have the data overwrite security kit and the customer does a lot of scanning HDD go BOOM!
Seriously, Reformatting is good but there is a paid APP found at GRC.com called SPINRITE. The app is $80 but I have used it to recover SSD drives, SD cards ,and even the HDD from a DVR. The major benefit of the app is as it does it's work there is a lot of feed back as to what was failing. For example, I found that the outer clusters (boot and OS areas) had a lot of degraded data, this was proof of Improper shut down procedure. The best thing about the app is it RECOVERS the drive so no address-book loss if you can't get to back it up due to a dreaded SC670.
I have not tried it on all copier manufacturers drives so some of the strange proprietary stuff may not recover but it is worth a try. I use it to try to salvage drives in military installations where coming or going with a HDD on you seems to give them licence to kill. As a side note I had to use it to fix my laptop once so I could get the firmware to update a machine.
Always remember, the copier tech of today is an IT guy NOT afraid of a wrench.
