    Ricoh Afiicio 1027 adding toner

We have a machine that is allways asking for toner. OEM toner, bottle rotates, seems to be no broken parts like the little covers that open to the dev unit. Machine is running clean not dumping toner, am at a loss.
    Thanks for any help

In order of what I'd check:

Strip toner hopper, these hopper units have the same little flappy mylars as the 1035/1045 and they can fall off.

Check chuck on toner hopper is free to move, as the handle moves down the chuck can stick, not removing the bung from the bottle.

    Replace PCU.

    Hope this is of help.
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

    Hit it.

        Hey,

I also had this problem today. 2 weeks ago the machine was asking toner with a new bottle. Made a forced toner supply, and it was fixed, until today. I checked the hopper, but it was empty, and the strips were fine. tested the output of the toner bottle motor, and it worked fine.
At the end i replaced the pcu (with only 25k made) and the problem was solved.
Maybe you can print some full black prints to check if the machine is taking toner. If not, the td value is wrong, and a new pcu will solve the problem.

        succes!

Here is something we have been seeing a lot of lately. The gear on the mag roll gets worn out (also the idler next to it) and they are what transfers the rotation to the mixers in the dev unit. If the mixers dont turn the toner in the dv doesn't get distributed and it calls for more toner. Also the copies stay light no matter how much you force toner.
It happens when a tech installed developer and spills it into the gears. It tears them up.

            Hello,

I can be wrong, but here in Belgium we don't add developer into a pcu (1027) for a aficio 1027. It's only a unit that can be placed. I also think if there is a problem with developer mixing, you previously get sc's like 390 and 392, or there's nothing on the copie at last.
Otherwise, we also had problems with drum drive shafts that were worn out.

            kind regards,
            Froota

Also check the toner inlet on the PCU the seal around the toner inlet comes loose (as happened a lot in the last 12 months not sure if the glue as been changed or reducded?) and sometimes ends up in the inlet or toner goes everywhere but in the toner inlet.

Also make sure the PCU drives by taking the PCU out and see if the shaft is stuck.

We used to get problems when the PCU swappable machines were more common place where the drum drive gear which is spring loaded sticks in the back postion. A quick cleaning and lubricating sorts it out.
Normally causes 392 but a useful thing to check quickly on em and pm calls.

Yes, Froota, you're right. I was thinking of the similar 15 and 18 cpm as well as the 25 (DSm725).
And why they chose to separate the 22/27 as PCU assy and leave the next lower and next higher segments as separate components is beyond me.
