    Color registration issue af2232C/af3245C

    Hey,

Last month I had have 2 identical problems, on a aficio 2232C and a aficio 3245C. The color was shifting, and color registration was not possible.
The sp modes are a bit different on both machines, but the process is not so different.
    I folowed the next steps:

    * checked all pcu's and dev. boxes, and cleaned/replaced what was necessary (also Id)
    * checked and updated latest firmware.
    * made a process control to check all units (1111)
    * tried to make a forced line adjustement (nogo) 070707
    * changed the values in mainscan and subscan manually, while checking the lines on the transfer belt without cleaning.
    * replaced the transfer BELT (nogo)
    * replaced Id sensors (nogo)

finally in both cases the problem was solved by replacing the whole transfer UNIT. After all, the customer is happy, but both transfer units had made around 250k, that is much less than the life time.

If somebody had have the same issue, please let me know if there are other solutions to fix this problem. Maybe a little part on the transfer unit could be the problem, maybe not.....let me know.

    Kind regards,

Be sure to clean the reflective roller under the transfer belt (marked in red).
This roller must be clean otherwise the I.D sensors cannot recieve a good LED signal back.

Also take out the ITB unit and black PCU and give the three ID sensors a blast of air.
These model can suffer from toner blasting under heavy usage and the ID sensors can get smothered.
(There is sliding cleaning arm to push next to the black PCU but it's fairly useless when they is so much toner hanging around).

The other thing to check is the cleaning unit, it will play havoc with line adjustment if it's not cleaning the belt correctly.
(Normally it's fairly apparent as the back of copies will be dirty).

The ricohs have Auto colour calibration and colour registration in User Program mode. You get there by utility/counter button then press maintenance. Might be worth a try.

        Hello,

        Thx for the quick reply.
I've forgot to tell that i cleaned all the rollers and sensor/encoders on the transfer unit. The cleaning unit was also replaced. I tested with new Id sensors without any result.

The color registration in the user menu, is the same as in the sp mode SP5-993-2, to make a forced line adjustement. So this was not a solution, unfortunately...

        Kind regards,

          Hi
This can be caused by the transfer belt speed being erratic and not being monitored correctly (dancing control).
The 3245 monitors this with the belt position mark and with the encoder on one of the rollers. And the 2232 just uses the encoder.
These features can be switched off for testing in SP5.995.20 - the 3245 can switch off the encoder, belt mark detection or both. The 2232, just the encoder.
In both machines I find that replacing the roller with the encoder usually fixes the problem.
          Hope this helps

I will give it a try, and give feedback if the problem re-occurs.....

            thx a lot!

              Hi,

On the af3245C the problem was solved by placing a new transfer unit, but this was a problem that i had a few weeks ago, so i'm not sure if it was the encoder, but probably it was.

On the 2232C it was a different story. After replacing the transfer unit for testing, i still could not execute the forced line adjustement. even after checking the belt speed, etc. (Magenta was far out of position)
After changing the values in sp2909 (main scan reg.) and 2916 (sub scan reg.) the machine finded my Magenta back. After this a forced line was possible, and my ACC executed fine!!

              anyway, thanks for the info.

i solved the color registration problem by changing the values of sub scan registration(sp 291-6).But after 1 day the same problem happened again then i have to changed the value again. This is my question, why it is always happenning?I need advice from you. Thanks.

First you must clean transfer unit rollers and new belt. The pcu and developer unit should be ok.
Take the non default data sheet and set the following sp codes to value

                    Sp 2-916-3 to 10

                    Sp 2-224-1 to 4

                    Sp 2-103-55 to 59

Do line pos.adj rough and then fine.

Sometimes you have to clear black or yellow dev. Unit in sp 5-999.
Nothing is impossible for them who should not do it.
