I am working on an Ricoh MPC4500 that will have a pinkish/gray background on color copies but internal print jobs look fine. I was told that an all clear was performed in SP mode and I do not have birth certificate for machine, is there any way to return it to normal functions. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Re: background on colorcopy but not print jobs
Thats classic all clear problem, probably got bad colour alignments and tray regos and a bunch of other stuff out as well. Best bet would be to get another birth certificate (from another mpc4500) and pay close attention to all the shading values and items relating to the scanning section. Good luck.
Doing an all clear without first backing up the NVram data to SD card is one of the most stupid things a tech (or other) can do.
PS: you did check behind the jam location cover thats attached to the front main door for the birth cert - didnt you? -
Re: background on colorcopy but not print jobs
Yes I checked behind jam removal chart on front door, so if I can get another birth certificate from a different machine which settings in particular will I need to look at. Previous tech did do the all clear without backing up any data, that is correct. Thanks again. Color registration is not off colors line up great, just has a background, also if I reduce to 65% background is only in image area, white around reduced image is perfectly white still.Comment

Re: background on colorcopy but not print jobs
Is there a change when you have the Auto density sensor turned off or on?
Reset the SP 4689m 4686, 4687 - 001 and 002 to whats on a birth cert, other wise fiddle randomly with these setings until you get it right. there s a thread on this somewhere here but I'm too lazy to search.

Re: background on colorcopy but not print jobs
One of the things that we do here on every service call is to always print the Non-default report SP 5990-006 on machines where it is available. Otherwise, we print the SP settings. Always save at least one from every machine. Can be used in the absence of the birth certificate.Comment

Re: background on colorcopy but not print jobs
Not sure if this model does it or not but on some of the new models now Ricoh made a spot for the birth cert behind the scanner white board, if you might just check, remove the white board and look in there.Comment

Re: background on colorcopy but not print jobs
It's been awhile since I've seen this and I always had the Birth Cert, but what you want to adjust is the Gray Balance - Book. It defaults in the 40s and you want to set it in the 60s. There's 2 or 3 Sp's for this in the upper 4xxx of Sp mode.
Sorry I can't remember which ones exactly as I just compared it to the Birth cert.Comment
