how to connect and install ricoh aficio 220

hi everyone. just got a aficio 220 for free and all it came with was a power cord. the instructions for the driver that i downloaded says connect the usb to the pc so it can be recognized but i don't see a usb port on it anywhere. i connected an ethernet cable to it but can't see it in network folder. how do i go about installing it? any help would be greatlly appreciated.

A PC can usually figure out USB by itself. Are you sure you have the correct USB cable? If this is a Ricoh SP C220 printer, it should have a USB port. If this is an MFP, a Ricoh 220 is a relic and may not even have a print controller module included. I don't think USB was even invented when the Ricoh Aficio 220 MFP was released.

For a network connected printer, first of all you likely need a network switch and two Ethernet cables. If you have a laptop, a single cable might work. Then you have to go into User Tools on the printer and set up a TCPIP address that is in the same range as your PC's address. Make sure the subnet mask and gateway match your PC. Then add a printer using the printer wizard. You will want to create a Standard TCPIP Port with the printer TCPIP address, and install the driver from your download, providing you unzipped the download to a known location.

You can probably Google better instructions, but those are the basics.

this is a printer that someone was gonna throw away. i cleaned it up and all it came with was a power cord. i have no idea if it actually works or have ink but it does come on fine. i don't have a usb port on it just an ethernet and some other port (looks like an old style printer cable port). i downloaded the drivers from the website and the instructions says plug in the usb and wait for the new hardware pop up, etc. i've connected the ethernet cord to my router and both lights beside the ethernet port on the printer are green as well as the light on my router but i'm not getting an ip, ip scanner doesn't list it. if you need anymore info or pics let me know.

edit: this is just a weekend project for me. i got it yesterday and have the weekend off. i'm not a novice in computers and not a novice in network or printers i've just never had a printer like this.

Is it a printer only, square box looking printer? Is it a Ricoh SP C220? If it's a printer only, there would be no scanner. Might be a model you have to configure with a program on your PC. It's likely too old to support plug and pray

OK now I see its an MFP.

You want to find out what your TCPIP address is on your PC.

Then go into USER TOOLS>PRINTER FEATURES>LIST TEST PRINT>CONFIGURATION PAGE

See if it will print one.

If it does then proceed to configuring the IP Address for the printer.

I have not been able to find the printer manual.

If it does have a scanner on it, then you have a G181 SP C220S. Page 187 from the Operators manual is attached showing the connectors.

I'm not sure if you set up the TCPIP Address in Printer Settings or System Settings. Some of the old ones were done in printer settings. It says just 220 on the front of the machine.

I have not seen one of these for a very long time.

well the printer tray 1 error light is lid up even though its closed so maybe thats why it wasn't being used anymore. when i got it, it very dirty, almost black. i wonder if i can set it to just use the second paper tray? i changed all of the printer settings but my pc still isn't finding it. i'm using angryip scanner as i can't see a dhcp list in my router settings.

If it is the printer only version, there is no display panel. You have to use Smart Organizing Panel.

Did you verify there is or is not a way to set up the IP address in the USER TOOLS. I recall it was before you could do a TCPIP port in Windows, and we had to use some funky tcpip port clients to set up tcpip printing to the NIC. Back then we has so many issues with network printing, we often used Jet Direct and AXIS print servers.

So you can't ping the NIC even. Nothing too promising so far.

In your 2nd and 5th pictures that show the interface, do you see the rectangular metal plate? That is where you would find your TCP/IP port. In simpler language, that means that you don't have the network interface option. Ricoh machines of this era were factory built with the combination of features you desired, not assembled from options and configured by field techs. So most likely this machine will not recognize a NIC even if you found one to install.

This machine is a dry process laser printer, so it never had "ink", only toner.

This machine will never print from a PC. It may be a doorstop disguised as a copier. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
                            1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
                            2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
                            3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
                            4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
                            5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.
