For one thing, Windows XP does not require a login name that has a password in order to use SMB scan to folder. Windows 7 and 8 do.

Yes, of course. Scan to SMB is possible to all Windows systems with updated firmware

and dont forget these steps with win 7
dumb down the encryption from 128 to 40-50 in network/ advanced adapter settings
turm off the win firewall and stop the service, otherwise it will get turned back on somehow,
make sure the print and folder shareing is on
you must share the folder on the network
also name recognition will not work in all cases so point the path directly at the computer ex: 192.168.1.23/scans
You will need PW and UN to log into the host PC
just some pointers i use everyday

I've never changed either of these settings with any machine I've setup - and I'd suggest that if windows firewall is active, it's because it's the only firewall installed, so disabling it, is pretty dangerous advice in my opinion

well sandmanmac whats the secret ? or the procedure then? ive never been able to get the folder to connect without the win firewall being off,and encryption dummbed down,I have allowed the ip address through the firewall, yes, and connected,
but ive never had any issue with the win firewall off. Please tell me how you do it, ide rather have the correct know how instead of a work around

I wish I had some secret tip I could give you to get you pointed in the right direction, but in the hundreds of setups I've done, it's pretty much identical to on XP systems - so long as the firmware is updated to handle the proper SMB version. So it's difficult to say what you might be missing.

You do need to open port 21 on Win firewall if you're setting up FTP scanning, but that's the only time I've ever touched a firewall setting
As for encryption levels? I've simply never touched them.

Ricoh has a number of How To documents on Global Knowledge that tell you how to set up scanning. What I usually do:
                      1. Create a user on the computer named scanner with the password scanning. XP did not require this but later versions of Windows do.
                      2. Create a folder on the root directory called scans
                      3. Share the folder scans and give the user scanner full rights to the folder. Make certain that if in the share setup there is an option for let network user have access, it is enabled.
                      4. If you are on a domain, make certain that the domain name is set correctly on the MFP. Otherwise make certain that the computer and MFP are part of the same work group/home group.
                      5. The MFP must have a unique NETBios name.
                      6. If you are using wireless connection for any computers, the wireless interfaced must not be allowed to turn itself off to save energy.

I set up a 161 on a win7 box just the other day.

To get SMB working the path needed to be \\192.168.XXX.XXX\shared_folder rather than \\PC_NAME\shared_folder. Make sure the IP address is static of course.

Try this, log in to a computer with same credentials that u are puting at scan profile, try access with Explorer \\xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx\folder,with u can access that folder and create any file, you will know for sure there isnt a credential problem, by the way i already had to disable windows firewall to make this work sometimes.

If you have to disable Windows Firewall, you do not have file and print sharing configured correctly. If you have some other firewall, open the administrative console for the firewall; locate the logging of what has been blocked; locate the file write attempt from the MFP; change setting to allow it in the future.
