    MPC5501 Finisher Problem

Moved an MPC5501 and now the finisher is inop. Nothing banged around. All looks good. Paper makes it through the bridge unit and stops at finisher entrance. Tried other finisher with same result. Finisher moves upon boot up then does not work. No error code, just jams when it goes to enter finisher now. Mylar is fine by the way.

    Thanks for any help!

    Re: MPC5501 Finisher Problem

I would check the machine side connector to the finisher.

          SR790 Finisher
Have also just upgraded the firmware as per other suggestions on here without any joy. And have swapped the finisher connector on the machine.

Is the finisher entrance guide bent? All it takes is someone to look at it wrong and it bends.
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

            Hit it.

No it's fine . Have tried 2 seperate finishers and bridge units.
Paper gets onto feed switch in finisher throat but the drive does not start.
If you do not clear the jam it says jam in finisher proving that the switch works and if you power up after jam and offer a sheet of paper into the throat it is pulled through the finisher as it initializes
Can run drive motor in test mode but when you run the switch test or the cover open or closed we see no change of state

What sort of machine is it bolted onto?

Just to confirm when you said you updated the firmware the finisher firmware is at 5.10(B4085154) or higher?

It is bolted onto an MPC5501 as per the thread title .

Not sure of Firmware level as I am at home now but did do a full firmware upgrade.
Will check it out and let you know

To upgrade the finisher firmware on the 790's you need to either replace/upgrade the rom on the finisher pcb or have a chip burner and burn the new firmware onto the rom...

He is correct, pull off the cover on the finisher and check the main board ROM. It should have a sticker on it, the last 2 digits should be a 63 or 64 to work on a C5501.
If not you can order the new ROM.

For what it is worth, it is usually best to start a new discussion about the issue you are experiencing rather than ask for help on an old discussion.
There is a chance that the issue you are experiencing is similar to the one on the old discussion, but that chance is actually surprisingly small. Otherwise you would have most likely found a solution to the issue you are experiencing on the old discussion.
Also, more people will observe your new discussion than will see your post on the old discussion, as some people will consider the old discussion as closed.
                            Good luck!

Hey if you get a chance what tray are you outputting to, i have a mpc 4502 that jams in the exact same spot for no reason but only when going to the top tray, if i send all jobs to the stack tray it runs no problem. I swapped i/o boards tried 3 bridge units, and 2 finishers and have yet to find a reason. Its weird it runs perfectly fine to the stack tray, but top tray bin and it jams right away at the bridge to finisher connection.
