[Dead] SHARP MX3640N Will Not Bootup

    Hello Everyone,

I have s Sharp MX3640N that partially boots up. The main engine turns on but, the green LED beside the LCD Power on button flashes and will not go solid. Due to this I cannot get the main LCD to turn on. The printer was not worked on so, I can tell you it is not a technician error.

This printer is a 2 hour drive away so, I'm hoping to get some ideas, from your experiences, to know what is the most likely cause before heading out.

I'm going to try and boot the machine with no HDD attached and see if I can get it to turn on with a HDD error. What else could I try? Do the LED's on the main board shred any light as to the failure?

    Thanks!

thanks for the tip, are the SD cards interchangeable? can I use one out of a machine out of my office or do I need to use a new one ordered from sharp?

if the machine hasn't been setup, like folders and addresses , I think sim 25-2 and your calibrations maybe on sd card, look in manual it will show what is on sd card and hdd. you may have to delete any user settings addresses scanning , ip addresses and redo 25-2(new developer) redo calibrations.

you can put sd card in just to test , then order one from sharp for the faulty mfp

I have an MX3640N at my office that is brand new. I'll take the SD card from it with me. If that works I'll setup there machine and order a new card for here.

Most likely the SD card. Had a machine with a bad memory module on the MFP cause these symptoms too, since you have a machine available you might want to bring those too. Just in case.

I'm also going to try a CN / Emergency Firmware update. I'm going to bring the other MX3640N copier I have just in case.

I'll update this thread with the results of the call. I don't like to leave my threads without the discovered solution, what is the point of that!

I agree with SD card causing problem. You can do a memory check in service mode to check memory chips.Simulation 60-1.
SD card should take care of you hopefully.

I cannot get the display to boot so, I have no access to the simulation menu at this time. If I can get it to boot I'll run some tests.

If unable to get to sims, try a firmware EMUPDATE.

                          Here is the latest update,

I went out on site today with a new SD card as well as a whole spare copier. The SD card did not resolve the issue . Same symptoms persist.

I also unplugged the HDD, no difference

I cannot do the emergency firmware upgrade as the LCD does not boot up when using the DIP SW switch.

I've swapped machines and brought the dead one back to my office. I'm going to try replacing the following

                          - SD Card
                          - Compact Flash
                          - MAIN MFP Board

I did discover today that the main router and modem were also both dead, knocked out from the storm, so I'm thinking this may have come through the ethernet line. I have it on an ESP surge protector for AC power protection only (the copier has no fax module).

I'll let you all know how it goes.

The CF card will also cause much of the same issues. We have had 2-3 CF cards go out. Once they do, they are dead from what I can tell. I've put them in my PC and they just lock up the PC. With the SC cards, I can re-write the firmware to the card and get them to work again. I have built a folder of images for different models so I can re-write a card as needed. I use HDD Raw Copy to do it.

Forwarding a copy of that folder of images would be appreciated. If you have time.
