    AR-168S "Check SPF" Msg

I have been fighting this little piece of crap for 2 days now. I keep getting the check SPF message and the scanner assembly goes back to home position whn trying to make a copy or a scan from the SPF. Sharp has a Tech bulletin which say's to run 41-06. Every time I run the test, the result is: 5190 ERR. This unit was dropped by the customer last April from about 1 ft height. The original call was for skewed scans, the SPF problem came up about 2 months ago, at first very intermittant, now almost constant. Any ideas??

Fiddle with it as you might, that scanner will never be square again.

But your best bet at squaring it up is to remove the scanner, then find a nice flat surface like a glass top desk. You can tweak on the scanner frame to make it as flat as possible. Then try the 41-06.

Or better yet, upgrade! I would use it as part of my sales pitch: "I can try, but that scanner will never be right after that drop...."

If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

I had it torn down and I squared up the scanner then put it back together.....no help. I assume (you know what this means ) that the code 5190 is the max value ?

Art, my friend, you've answered your own question.....The customer dropped it and their business insurance should replace it. Much like water damage or similar...

I know you'd rather fix it (stubborn bastard) but it will probably come back to haunt you if you do!

The scanner is looking for the 2 black lines on the front & rear of the white plate on the SPF. If it doesn't find them, that's when you'll get the message. Clean the optics really good as the outside edges are the first areas that dust accumulates & then the lines aren't "seen". Hope that helps.
          Hope that helps !

Glad to help. The gear that drives the fusing unit is usually the one that causes the noise.
And I do smoke good cigars !
              Hope that helps !

Don't know if I'm going to be able to fix the fuser noise....it started after they dropped the machine, and I have installed a new fuser with no change.

It's the gear that drives the fusing unit, not on the unit itself. You'll have to pull the main PWB & drive pack off the back in order to replace it. Good Luck
