    Sharp MX Color Series

I just had a machine today that needed a developer change, but it was in need of one color - Magenta. According to the meter count it had not reached its PM level of 100k. I changed the one developer weighing whethter to change the Cyan & Yellow. I left the other two colors to go to cycle. The question was, is - when this happens, that one color needs changing, is it better to chang all three so that there is a equal level of service, or change just the one and do the others when they come up?

    How do you handle this?

I look at how close they are to being due. Generally if its less than 10% of the life cycle left I do all color.

I've got MX machines in the field that have done 400K on the color devs. If the C/Q is good when changing the drums, reset the devs at the same time. Sure, change the devs if needed, but they are an expensive set, so I only change them when really needed. Most of the time, they will do double their recommended life without any problems.
Check the C/Q with sim 64-01 or 64-05 and check color depth. If faint or weak colors, change the devs, but mostly they are pretty good and just reset the counter. I have found this to be quite successful over the last few years.
Just working on costs thats all.

Thanks for the info Wazza, that could be a money saver for us. I'm curious though, when you reset DV counters, do you re-do the toner calibration?

          Hey there Zoo...

No way, dont do the dev adj sim 25-02. This is only when they are actually replaced.
I only reset the devs when changing the drums to keep all counters at the same levels, otherwise you will be getting dev calls, drum calls & TA maint calls..... whats the point??? Just reset the devs when you change the drums. Trust me, it works fine.
I look after many, many, many, many MX machines for years. You only need to change the devs if the C/Q is being affected. The Color dev set is very expensive, so if you can avoid it, just reset it. I have many machines that are 2 years old, done 400K on color, without a dev change, and the C/Q is near perfect. No complaints on printing or copies. Sure, the drums & belts need changing often, but the devs on the MX machines are brilliant..... Best Sharp Devs EVER!
It all depends on the environment the machine is in too.

            I agree with Wazza.....

Devs and most other Consumables can go at least twice around the clock and the Drum only get replaced when they show signs of wear or are causing PCQ problems...

Great Boxes now they have sorted the 'bugs'..

The had and still have problems with the CG fouling... just carry a few spare MK kits and replace them... You can clean-up the CG, but you'll be back within 5k with Barcode~like lines.
            regards

I agree with Wazza and John, but can anyone explain how the magenta DV has a different count than the rest. Each color would advance for each color click.

                Hi Choicecopyguy.....

I can only think of 2 ideas to answer your question.

                1. Client has chosen 'single color' copy mode (Magenta only).
                2. Someone did not correctly reset the magenta dev counter last time around.

I always just reset the devs when changing drums. These devs are soooo good, they will last you a very long time and will save you a heap of $$$. Just keep an eye on it at each call.

                  Hi John,

I agree with the issue on CG causing alot of lines & C/Q problems. The new MX boxes have better ventilation (like the C-Dragon Black CG unit). There is a large ventilation pipe running through the back of the Pastel 2's. The excess ozone not being able to be removed from the grid area, causes the grid to become dirty before they are due for replacement.
We'll soon see how they go.

Is it possible to buy the Drum Blades separate from the Kits?

                      Hi Wazza
Have 5 of the 26's M~i~F and they are going well, other than the last minute addition of the 'cleaner' roller in the F Section {similar to the ribbed one in the later Tigers} causing a bit of copy quality problem on one machine when running 180gsm duplex, but once it was 'adjusted' to 'file13' it is working well.

gblase... You can buy them as a stock item, but why not just get the complete MK kit, Sharp reports that the CG has been improved, but I still replace them faster than Drums.....
                      regards
