    AR-M355, squeaking...

    Not very familiar with this box, but squeaking and snapping noise coming from the exit section. I replaced all the normal PM components, including the Developer Unit about 2 years ago on this machine, so don't think its coming from any of those units. But Fuser Unit appears suspect... can anyone concur?

      Every time I heard squeaking from these machines, it was in the exit/turnover section above the fuser. It's not fun to remove, and you have to remove it to get to the bushings that are squeaking. Good luck.

          Enter the Sim mode and turn on the individual motors to see if you can tell where it's coming from. The delivery/exit unit and fuser are right against each other so it can be hard to tell by just making copies. You can remove the fuser and turn it by hand to see if there's a squeak. Noise is common from the bearings and cleaning roller bearings in the fuser. Oil them up with machine oil. Also, very very common is the delivery unit bearings. I've replaced hundreds over the years for jamming, warping, and noise. I usually got roughly 3-4 200K PMs before I would replace the delivery unit too. Poor design overall with heat and plastic. It's easy to take out but time consuming because all the covers, fn6, etc to replace it. Can be ordered as a whole unit. You might be able to use a flashlight and oiler spout to hit all the guide rollers and bearings. That works sometimes.

          Another spot noise comes from is the main drive pack. This takes a while to replace also but isn't too difficult. L4-02 codes are a death sentence for this drive pack.

                  First thing I'd check is the gear that drives the fuser unit (you have to release the fuser levers n order to take the fuser out, there right to the left is the big gear, usually its lube gets dry and/or the gear itself is badly worn.

                      Wow! It must be 10 years since I've seen a Jupiter.

                      Here are a few possibilities:

                      Gear grinding noise: siezed drum cleaning auger
                      Humming noise for 3 seconds: Out of staples.
                      Knocking noise (3) times per letter page: seized registration roller bushings.
                      Thumping noise: flat spots on the pressure roller.

                      If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
                      1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
                      2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
                      3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
                      4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
                      5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

                          If it is squeaking, it is almost always the Paper Delivery Ass'y. There was a bulletin, where the paper del' collars had the insides made of metal. Metal to metal creates noise. New collars don't have the metal inserts.

                          Anyway, you can rebuild the unit using new collars, and it will be cheap, but it would save you time... to replace the paper del'. But that will also take time. It's mildly involved and annoying if you have a finisher.
