ar-m550u ok single sided , gray duplexed

info needed , copier has ok single sided copies , but duplexed copies have gray background , even when done 1 to 2 off the glass scan , copier has new drum, blade ,dev , 25-2 ran , new trans unit , older firmware , checked settings 46-17/20 , ran 63-2 for oc and feeder , both sides of duplexed copy are gray as well , any input appreciated , not very experienced on sharp's
received good feedback on boards before on bc320/260 issues , and after pulling head out of !@# followed advice and have changed drive gears on about 6 or 7 of them, ( cracked city) , we deal in used copiers only , no factory trained on sharps

You havent mentioned if it does it on printing as well???? That will eliminate any scanner/optics problems.
I'd check the condition of the Upper Heat Roller in the fuser. If that roller has a worn surface, you will get toner sticking to it, causing a 'ghosting' or grey background on copies & prints. The higher the coverage, the worse the output will look. You have done a good job so far of checking and adjustments. I'd update the firmware too.

Change copy density correction in Sim 46-20 to match the values shown in Sim 46-17 shading correction to make copies the same front and back. Start with the default setting of CIS (item 5) in Sim 46-17. Also adjust copy density correction in Sim 46-20, item 3, SPF(front) item 4, SPF (rear) and item 5, DSPF (back surface). The default setting is 128 for them all.

If the print tests are ok when you can do them later today, do the above adjustments for the scanner.

does the developer units wear on the 550 like the 350/450? we have had several 450's with high count dev units that were giving us same problem after full PM. New dev unit solved problem. also is the 550 a good box?

            Hi jpcopy,
I know of 6 Dragons that have done 5Mil each. Most of our other Dragons have done around 2Mil. I have never had any issues with the Dev tanks on the Dragons. I dont really have anything to do with machines smaller than the Dragon series as I only do Color & Hi-End/Production machines, so I cant compare it with problems you have had.
The Dragon series was a fantastic machine.... sure..... there have been many changes to the fuser and many, many mods..... but this is one box that will do full PM before needing any work done. Going to a call on a Dragon was always a good one. Never had any major problems with any of them.
I'd be totally amazed if the Dev tank was causing this particular problem. Cant see how it would happen honestly.

              interesting resolution

copier did not have nic so no printing available, saw a tech pub that recomended the settings above and had already tried that , what did fix the problem makes sense in hindsight i guess , after changing drum and dev i knew there were counters for such and reset them , possible link to image correction due to wear , what i found in another area of service mode , ( and the exact area i dont remember , it was earlier today and now i am home waiting for lost to come on) , was counter for drum rotation time and dev , these were in seconds , figured wouldnt hurt to reset , and wahla!! graying background removed , i guess the counts are tied to image correction due to wear , having been formally trained on canons , ( a long while back) , maybe one of you sharp guys could fill in the blanks , but i ran 4 reams of paper to be sure , and delivered it to customer a lunch , these people run this machine and so far so good
thanks for all the feedback though

Simulation 24-11 compensates for developer and drum degradation. And if they are not reset at the PM, yes, it can cause some strange image quality issues. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
                1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
                2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
                3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
                4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
                5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

yep, sorry about that...... I totally assumed you reset the rotation counts during your drum/dev change. It's such a common practice I forgot to ask if you actually did it.
Sorry mate..... I shouldnt assume anything.
Glad to hear its going well.
