[CQ] Phoenix CR4/CR4.5 - Dev Pulls

    Hello Copytechnet Community

Ref: Sharp OEM Toner - Mainly on a MX5050-6070-MX5051-MX6071. Basically any machine in this range that takes the MX-607MK charge kit

My post this morning (in England) is more of a discussion/wondering. Are other dealers still experiencing a high level of dev pulls when using Sharp Genuine Toner?

I know that during the time this model was made by Sharp they have released various modifications which we have applied in the field to help overcome this, main ones being:
    Modified Mylar's
    Special Firmware
    Modified Process Units/ Dev Boxes

Then to clean certain areas of the machines on site visits - Fans, filters, LED discharge areas, PTC unit etc...

The main reason for my post is to gauge if other dealers are still seeing an above average level of dev pulls on these machines?

The interesting thing we are seeing is, on the MX6071 range, its the Magenta dev that pulls more frequent out of the 4 colours

Its something I'm re-investigating at the dealership I work for

Thank you all for your help in advance

Interesting. So far, the boxes for the 70's and 71's have had longer than average DEV life, in fact, I confess that sometimes we straight up reset the DV, and wind up doing the DEV change at x2 it's life on many of our machines. We have not had any issue, and on the 70's, we used NON-OEM toners, specifically KATUN.

Before blaming the toners though, are you absolutely sure the techs at these dealerships are performing the FULL calibrations? And in the correct order? If your over-toning, you might not know it in a standard print of a 64-5.

One last thought, we did have this issue with the monochrome 65's family. DV loss, and DV pulls ALL THE TIME. When I asked the community here they responded that no one experienced the issue. We think it was the NON-OEM 560NT toner, when we used OEM toner, worked great, until the release of 561NT, whom KATUN said there was a change in formula. And sure enough, our DEVS in those machines lasted to normal life expectancy. So it is possible it could be toner.

    My two cents.

LJSam, why are you changing the dev at all if it's not low/empty? The CR4 and CR4.5 models have Dev Refresh System, so new toner adds new dev as well. Old dev is cycled through and exited into the waste toner box. The dev life is specified as the life of the engine. Unless there's a valid reason for changing dev, it's supposed to last for years (ideally). Sure, reset if high rotation has caused a maintenance message, but you shouldn't have to replace the dev at all. Big $$ saving.

gmoore081, are you using refurbished Process Units by any chance (fitting a new Blade/MC Grid/Drum)? On the 50/60ppm models, the waste toner stirring sheet can become caught on the toner receive seal, which creates a small gap between the drum and the seal. During normal use, toner then contaminates the MC Grid because of the small gap between the seal and drum. This MC Grid contamination causes incorrect charging of the drum and subsequent dev pull at that location. If you remove the drum from the process unit, and you have a contaminated area of the MC Grid, check the stirring sheet hasn't damaged the receive seal. If it has, the seal must be replaced or better yet, replace the whole drum unit.
Correct device ventilation also plays a big part in operational performance. Make sure there's plenty of space around the device and there's no aircon/heaters blowing straight onto it.
Cleaning the Process Control/Registration sensors, resetting halftone values in 44-27, then calibrate the sensors in 44-02 to the belt surface, before performing a full color calibration procedure in 46-74 helps maintain a clean machine as well.
Make sure the device firmware is current as well. There are corrections for process control timing and frequency in recent releases.

The only issue we have had were the mylar that sits behind the wiper blade where its sides are up against the seals causing a deformity so we cut them so there is 1/8 inch gap between mylar and side seal. Since doing that we have had no more dev pull.

Bigdaddy is right. There is an issue with the glue on that mylar. We've been getting new (free) units from Sharp for each one that's bad, and there's been a bunch. Have to check the new ones too, had a few loose ones that caused the pull again.

            Hello Everyone

Thank you for your replies back to my post, it is very much appreciated.

I have put together a handy guide for the engineers for this issue & I have added things mentioned in this message Thread

Not so much Dv pulls, but dr unit waste toner backups. Causing a clot at the front drop port and backing up from there, causing L4 19's, blade flips and such.
