MX5070 add toner alerts

Hi, I have had a couple of the faster model of machine (CR4 and CR4.5 which have a toner hopper) set up for toner low and toner empty email alerts.
We have been getting toner low with no problem, but not always the empty alert. Is the because the machine has a hopper and when the actual cartridge is empty the machine says change toner rather than toner empty? only actually showing empty when the hopper is empty? if left running for long enough without replacing cartridge an add toner alert will be generated.
The customers are changing the toner when they are asked to change toner (toner ejected), would this be the reason why we rarely get empty alerts?
If so, what would be a workaround?

I very rarely get toner empty alerts on this model, mostly just when it happens in absence of anyone knowledgeable to switch the cartridge in a timely fashion (vacation time or COVID closure). At least once I changed the cart while the copier was still running (the job didn't stop), so I guess there might be a small amount of toner still available in the machine while the cart was really empty. Maybe then if it gets replaced as it popped out before the copier really was totally empty, there's no email sent for the actual empty situation? It might be a threshold thing, or a delay in sending the alert...

i don't believe the xx70 series ejects the toner cart. This started with the xx71's

Check settings of SIM 26-69

Look at SIM 22-14

If greater than one, they are installing early

But they do! You can't change the toner on MX5070N & MX5070V otherwise...

I will need to check my emails for a pattern but looking at an individual MX-5070N registered in MICAS this is what I see:

For all toners the alerts begin with at least one "Toner supply is low (Near End)" eventually followed by "Replace Toner Cartridge". With black the toner supply low message occurs multiple times before the actual alert to replace it. Most of the time for color I see one low followed by the replace. They can be a day to weeks apart.

We adjust sim 26-69 settings on all color machines as well as soft switch 32 bit 2. I think the soft switch has something to do with how the machines report toner alerts.

Is it soft switch 55-3
And what does that soft switch do??

Yes 55-3 sw 32 bit 2 set to 1. It has been so long ago I honestly can't remember what our rep said it did other than it had something to do with toner reporting alerts.

I have a list of soft switch data at work that isn't published. I will see if I can find it in there.

Switch 55-3 bit 2 is for toner MIB report 5%

I see you have item D set to 1 (default is 2) all the manual says is operation setting 1 2 or 3 with no explanation. What does the setting do?

Most of my customers are scanning and copying as well as printing, so they see the change toner message on the screen and change it, machine never runs to empty unless they are doing a huge print job and don't see the screen on the copier.

I have checked with all customers who have this model and they always have less spare stock than we think they have.

Four emails on 1/14/2022 !!!!! Toner suply is low (C) !!!!!
This same message again on 1/26 and 2/2

3/11/2022 !!!!! Add toner. (C) !!!!!

I am not sure if I ever get a Low not followed by an Add.
