    Bad pulleys

There are 6 pulleys that the scanner cables wrap around. They contain bearings which go bad. Replace the pulleys and the problem will be fixed. Sharps part number is NPLYZ0167FCZZ.
    Good luck

        It will work

I have done it about 20 times. When you get the old pulleys out the bearings will fall out in your hand.

Nine times out of 10 this problem is caused by the scanner motor control board located near the center at the back of the machine. There is an ic on this board that controls the motor signals and it has been know to fail.

Under the mirror 1 carriage there are plastic runners that ride on the rails - they often get filty with grease and dust build up - those scanner motors don't handle much resistance if you clean them and check the rails for dust and clean them with some alcohol it might help and check the bearings on the scanner wire axles both right and left as well as the white nylon bearings for the scanner wires. Sometimes the bearings will breakdown and it takes a closer examination to see. Good Luck.

You said that you changed the scanner PWB and scanner motor, and I believe you. But did you install new parts? Or possibly just re-locate old worn out parts.

Like everyone here has said so far, this is a very common problem. So common, in fact, that quite a few of your scrap machines in the copier graveyard probably have exactly the same problem.

Have you searched this topic? There are quite a few helpful posts already available to you. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
                    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
                    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
                    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
                    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.

If I remember correctly there are different scanner motors and/or boards. Something about the motor phase and a setting in simulation. Definately was a bulliten about this Any one else remember this? Without digging deeper that is all I got. I can also remember a time when the main charge actually caused this same problem in an ar-337. When the scan lamp got half way out, the main charge would kick in and for whatever reason the scanner would stop and make a loud humming noise. Replaced the main charge and all was good.

There are two differents sets of motors and boards for this machine. The 2 phase motor has a big brass flywheel on the back of it. The 3 phase motor does not have this flywheel on it. I have ran into 4 times now where I had to put the 2 phase(old style motor) in replace of the 3 phase(new style). Not sure why but I would replace pulleys and put a new 3 phase motor and board on. Problem would still persist. Put a 2 phases motor and board works like a champ. Also make sure you have your sim set right. It's in sim 26 can't remember the subcode. That tells the machine which phase of motor is installed.
