    Sharp ar m550

Good day! I have an older sharp-fuser had fell apart.
Upon rebuild the machine jams constantly, after the drum-paper will not enter the fuser. Jam code pod1
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks

The Dragon fuser unit has had several design changes. Have you just rebuilt the fuser in its original old frame? I'd suggest getting yourself the latest fuser unit. Here in Australia, its the AR-703FU (from April '07 onwards). This is the latest design frame, that you can refurb with the latest fuser rebuild kit later on. It has better paper path & cleaning components.

If the paper is not even entering the fuser, as you have stated, without seeing it, I'd say the fuser is not turning, or you have done something amiss with your rebuild. Could also be a transfer belt unit problem, but more likely the fuser.
    Have a closer look.

      I can't improve on that. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
      1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
      2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
      3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
      4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
      5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Somewhere in the progression of fuser designs for the Dragon, the fuser drive assembly had an upgrade also. I'll see if I can dig that info up, or even if that's necessary with the newer AR-703FU.

          Hey Zootech,

The bulletin I have on the new Fuser Drive unit, states it must be replaced as well if you are going to use the new AR-703FU. However, the job is a pain in the ass to do, so I put a new AR-703FU in a machine with the original fuser drive unit and it worked perfectly fine. Every single Dragon we have in the field has since been updated with new fuser units, but the fuser drive unit is still the same in each machine.
The bulletin states that L4-03 Trouble MAY occur if this is not done. So far, for the past few years, it has not occured to us.
It also states the firmware must be upgraded to v4.04 or higher when installing the new fuser unit, as well as several adjustments for gamma & laser power. It also recommends replacing drum & dev at the same time.
In all the Dragons I have been to, that require the fuser immediately, none of those 'recommended' adjustments or replacements have been done and the machine continued to run perfectly fine with the new fuser. No image quality issues reported afterwards, until drum/dev actually due each time.

Dont worry about looking it up, its got nothing to do with this issue anyways.

Roho.... have a look at the fuser upper roller drive gear. If you did a refurb of that fuser, you most likely used the original drive gear. Check the inner locating notch of the gear has not broken off. This would cause the gear to turn, but the fuser rollers would not. Not highly likely, but worth a look all the same.

Otherwise, get yourself the new fuser. It works better.

Thanks for all your suggestions-tried the fuser on another copier-worked fine. Upon returning to cust site, I noticed the sep assembly on the drum unit had issues.

I have seen that locating notch or tit as I call it shear off on a new MX 550 before, and they dont put the gear in the fuser kits, like they usd to do, I temp fixed it, went old school, think SD 2060, I drilled a hole in the gear, behind the teeth, and drive a screw to let it grab the notch, ran like a champ till I got the new gear in.

Hey Vincent..... done exactly that myself in the past, about 10 years ago. Was well over 150kms from workshop, needed fix right now. Worked great, probably could have left it alone and it would still be working (just like yours).

I gotta laugh. Done that too. Those black fuser gears only last two PM cycles before you start to see the hairline fractures.
