    Ar 161 11x17 paper bumps

    not real sure just how to explan this. when copying 11x17 paper all is fine for the first 5", then there is a small bump in the paper then every 2 5/8" -+ it is repeated down the page right to left always. the copy is not distorted at all. the fuser looks fine. if i copy 11x81/2 paper same thing. if 8 1/2x11R the bumps change to 1" apart and are repeated also. no wrinking of paper is found, as in the pressure roller being bad. ALL BUMPS ARE 1/2 WIDE. I HAVE NOT A CLUE!!! thanks howard.

      I'm not discounting your observations, but that is illogical. Regardless what tray the paper feeds from, all the rollers that could make the "bumps", registration, drum, fuser, & delivery are the same through the path. There's only one paper path.

      You should not be able to get different patterns from different size paper. Could the pattern already be in the paper before copying? If you switch the paper size in the tray and program that size, does the pattern interval change? =^..^=
      If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
      1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
      2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
      3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
      4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
      5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

          What a coincidence!!

          I was in the workshop earlier this week, when I was asked what would be causing these 'bumps' or 'ripples' through the paper, coming out of an AR163.

          Straight away, I said 'damp paper' and kept on walking. There was nothing wrong with the image quality, just these ripples and bumps through the paper from halfway through to the rear edge.

          The guys tested the same paper in another machine of the same series, a Tiger series & an MX series machine. These all came through perfectly fine, without the bumps & ripples through the paper.

          After a while, the guys come back to me and showed me the main drive unit gear assembly. It had some very worn gears throughout it.
          New gears were ordered, main drive assembly rebuilt & the machine is perfect. No more bumps/ripples through the paper.

          Probably the only time the junior techs ever had one over me!

              I think Wazza is correct. There were a lot of drive issues with this model.

                  And to top it off..... the main drive unit is not available as a complete unit part number. You need to strip it down, and rebuild it with new gears & grease..... ...... ouch!
