Does anyone know what the difference is in the sharp drum cartridge & the xerox version of the same machines. I've got a handful of these al series machines in the field, but I had a customer call in needing a drum replaced in the xerox version. Part # is different, so I'm assuming they're not interchangeable, but why. Is there a trick to make the sharp version work? (they are cheaper than xerox brand)

My guess? If it's a drum only & blade you should have no problem with interchanging. If it's a unit, it may be keyed differently. The small Sharps do not have CRUM chips on the drum units, so your best bet would be to 'rebuild' old Xerox drum units.
I've substituted Sharp parts into the small Sharp-made Xeroxes on several occasions. Xerox typically only offers assemblies. If you want sub-assemblies go to the Sharp parts book. =^..^=If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

The drum units are the same. The difference is in the casing. There is a notch cut out of the back of the Xerox drum unit. You can use the sharp AL drum unit and just notch the casing before you set it in there. Or you can just rebuild as mentioned above.
Be careful because the drum will fit ALMOST all of the way in the unit without taking the notch out. You will have all kinds of issues then!!
Good luck.
