    MXC311 scanner

Does anybody have a magical way to get into the scanner to clean the mirrors?
I know I should be ashamed of myself. Strangely though, I am not.

Hahaha.... I just had a quick look at one. You are right.... its not easy huh! There's abit more to it that I thought. I haven't needed to clean optics yet on these.

As the whole top cover looks like one complete piece, you're going to need to remove some covers and the top cover will unclip from underneath.

Actually, see Service Manual, page 356, scanner section removal. Ouch.

Thanks Wazza, I was really hoping I was missing something. Oh well.

          Use a Hammer

Edit: i just looked to, thats pretty frakin ignorant. Better use a sledge.

            Hey Lawrence,

I'm more likely to use the sledge just with regular servicing, not just cleaning the optics!

we've been kicking around the idea of drilling a small hole somewhere in the area of home position just large enough to fit the straw from compressed air can in and blowing off the mirrors, haven't done enough checking if there is a good spot to do this yet, but i am betting it would have to be on the rear frame, since the console is in the way of the front frame..
Where the heck is my spring hook?

One of our guys here is thinking of the same thing. Then just sealing with tape. The problem is even when you get the carriage unit out there is only so much cleaning you can do anyway, kind of like the ar168. We'll let you know how it works out.

We pulled one to clean it......my suggestion for future cleanings......use it as a training exercise.

                      Re: MXC311 scanner

Less than 1 hour with practice. It's annoying, but manageable. It reminds me of the typical HP scanner.

Every cover off. The whole scanner has to come off, DF off, flip over to remove screws and split in two. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
                      1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
                      2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
                      3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
                      4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
                      5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.
