You need the AR-P21 option (includes 40GB HDD, NIC, and main/boot flash ROMs). The option comes with an application number that must be submitted to Sharp for a product key.

Like Zootech said, the ONLY way is to register the P21 and get a product key. The ports are active on this machine only in firmware update mode.
      Hope that helps !

Ok don't mean to be a pain but I have only known Sharps as copiers never had to make them printers until now. I can do a firmware upgrade on an HP with my eyes closed but wouldnt know where to begin on a sharp. Do you maybe have a bulletin or something that could teach me how? Also, we have lots of parts machines could I maybe take the HDD and flash ROMS off of one?

The firmware update procedures are in the service manual. I've never had to try it luckily, but I'd think you'll have to switch the NIC, controller PWB & main PWB as to keep the product key with that serial number.
          Hope that helps !

The product key is licensed to the main unit's serial number. No matter what you do you will need a valid key that is linked to the serial number. A key from another device will not work. So if you get everything the machine physically needs to print it will be useless without the key. You must purchase the key from Sharp. Furthermore through a dealer! Good luck.
