    Sharp MX3501 w/ FNX2

customer calls says machine shows a jam they can't find....upon arrival machine indicates jam, indicator is showing a jam in the RBX1 (paper pass unit). I cannot reset. SIM 22 shows a "FDOP". Manual indicates FDOP is Finisher Door open. In SIM 3 all sensors check good, also via SIM 3, all motors and clutches respond correctly.

SIM 7 "disable misfeed detect" machine will pass paper

Remove finisher and RBX1, machine runs fine.......

Any suggestions?????? Not sure why FDOP shows in misfeed hiistory and manual indicates that it is a "door open" condition

You most likely have a faulty lift motor in the FNX2.

Check the CB1 circuit breaker on the finisher control board. If it has been tripped, replace the motor with a new one (0CW4135K550//). Its the same motor as the FN7 lift motor (slightly different size, but fits fine). There is a known issue with oil contamination getting into the bushings of the motor and causing it to short circuit.

If you reset the CB1 and the lift motor sounds bad when initialising during bootup, you have a bad motor. If the door error comes back without doing any sort of warmup or lift motor startup, then you have blown the finisher control board.

I've seen this a few times now. The message says to close the door, but its caused by the lift motor. It could also be the small spring on the back of the RBX1 drawer has fallen off, so check that tto, but I'm betting lift motor in this case.

I just thought of something else......

You'll probably notice a F1-21 trouble code listed as well as the FDOP jam code. If that is the case, I'll bet my right nut that the CB1 is tripped and the lift motor is playing up.

How did you get along with this one Michael?

Was it a popped CB1 & lift motor problem like I've seen before here?

          Checked CB --- not popped
Replaced finisher Main Brd and Motor as a set.......NO GO
Swapped out RBX1 including the interface panel that mounts to left side of machine.......NO GO

Machine still shows jam in the RBX1 Transport bed can't be reset, pulling finisher itself in house tomorrow

It is one of those problems that when I finally see the problem I will kick myself in the ass, saying why didn't I see that before......

          ............and so it goes

Oh man... this is serious.... and so goes my right nut, because I bet it would be the lift motor shorting out the board.

I've done some more thinking and research....

Check fuse F205 on the DC power board. When that fuse blows, the codes given include Finisher door open/close & finisher jam (even though nothing there).

Other than that......Its not something as simple as the delivery unit clear sensor arm fallen off, giving an RBX1 drawer jam? The older versions didnt have the spring on that sensor, so when the clear arm fell off, there was no weight to pull it down & be in correct position. The newer delivery units have a spring on there so even if the clear sensor arm falls off, the machine still works.

            Definitely check F205.

Will definitely check fuse F205, I think I mentioned that I can pass paper through entire machine including finisher with Sim 7 Misfeed detect disabled, and with Sim 3 Finisher load check - all components activates normally. For that reason I was betting against finisher board and motor, but stranger things have happened......will let you know the result, thanks for your help.

OK I knew I would kick myself, once I found the problem....... During initial jam removal customer damaged the Reverse Detect Actuator (clear plastic actuator that replaces the Center Tray Exit Full actuator when installing RBX1) It was hung up on reversing plate. I did not notice damage when removing finisher. When I went back with Machine main brd, I reinstalled finisher and noticed the damage.

Lesson learned......machine indicated a RBX1 jam so I went right for Sim 3, should have gone to Sim 30. So what is the difference between Sim 3 and 30......about 2 hours of hair pulling.

                Wazza, thanks for your help.

                  Ha.... nice one.

I did mention the clear actuator 5 days ago, but thought there is no way you could miss that......... oh well. We went abit too far with the diagnostics this time, on something so simple.
