    Sharp SF-2030

Hi I discovered this site whilst looking for a solution to my problem, and I thought I'd ask.
I have a Sharp SF-2030 which up until 1 week ago was working fine.
Firstly the Paper draw on the bottom just doesn't seem to communicate with the copier anymore, it like the machine just no longer recognizes it
Also I'm now getting a U3 error, and upon pressing and holding the start button it displays 20 which I believe is a mirror motor locked error.
The only problem is, the mirror motor seems to be working just fine, so a copy tech advised me to burn the machine as it is the main PWB and you can't obtain them anymore, but the machine has only done 1500 pages so I thought that it's a waist to just throw it out.
    Can anyone offer any suggestions??

If you love this machine and want to keep it, you should be able to get a whole working parts machine for a couple hundred dollars. I can't seem to find my old paper manuals either. Does the U3-20 refer to the scanner motor or the focal length adjust motor under the lens cover? When you say the motor seems to be work, do you mean that it completes initialization, but then errors out during copying?

    More detail please. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Yes the U3-20 is mirror motor lock detection. There are no parts available for this machine. I'm afraid it's seen better days.
      Hope that helps !

The camera black mylar often gets hung up. take off glass, take off black cover, clean and lube rails and reinstall cover MAKING SURE the black mylar is not caught in or obstructing movement.

Shame, I got two heading for the junker soon.

Hi the machine doesn't seem to initialize at all, when you turn it on everything lights up you hear what sounds like one of the motors firing up, and the fan starts, then nothing, just has the U3 error on the display.

            Thanks for your help

Like pjdbm says, remove the black metal lens cover, and clean & lightly oil the rails. You should be able to leave the lens cover off, re-install the glass, then watch it try to initialize. There were very few mechanical or electrical problems with the mirror drive. The most likely scenario is that old lubricant has died up hard, inhibiting the mirror travel.

You won't be able to make copies with the lens cover off. The image will be mostly blank with the cover off. =^..^=

                Hi Thanks for the help!
I've given that a go, and it is still not working correctly, I cleaned the rails fully, and applied a very small amount of machine oil to them and gently moved the carriage backwards and forwards a couple of times, the carriage moves more freely, but still hasn't solved the problem.
                Is there any other suggestions??

Its been a while since I worked on this thing, but as Blackcat says, turn off power and pull off glass and camera cover and leave them off. Now carefully observe the camera unit while turning power on, the camera unit will make a few funky noises (its normal) and it looks for "home position" look to see if the camera unit is moving or it is frozen, if it is moving normally and still pops the code it might be the sensor for home position, if the camera is not moving well or hesitates look for a cable off or a pulley issue.

If all this is confirmed and it still codes out, it might be a board issue.

Please be careful whilel covers are off the machine as this is for technical use.

Hi the camera moves normally and the code still pops up, if it is the board, would it still be possible to find one??

I am not saying it is definite the board, it might be but only a tech would be able to confirm it. I am sure you can find a whole part machine if you wanted. I know there is one on Ebay right now. I have a sf2530 complete but that wont do you any good. I am in New York.
