[Jamming] MX2700 turning corner over only on letterhead

    Hi,

    I have a strange problem on a Sharp mx2700.

When I do a copy or a print on letter head setting it clips the leading edge near side corner on the first side before the fuser. This happens on all trays.

I have tried duplexing the letterhead paper on plain paper setting and it works.

I have also tried using plain paper and calling it letter head and it still clips.

Sorry this is long winded but I have ruled out that its a paper issue and a tray issue.

So what happens differently when we select letterhead rather than plain paper

Letterhead setting will pass the paper through the fuser first without printing anything on it as it would be the rear side passing the belt, then pass through the ADU, before passing back to have the Letterhead printed on the correct side.

I have seen the following causes of what you are describing occuring:

    - A contamination on the PS/Rego rollers causing lead edge to fold (usually label glue or label piece)
    - A large toner buildup on corner of fuser entry plate, caused by primary transfer belt constantly dispensing toner there
    - Letterhead paper manufactured by certain brands or with certain paper grain/fibre direction, coatings or GSM ratings incorrect, while other Letterhead works perfectly fine
    - Not having the modified Reverse PG gate installed (before October 2006 production). Was PGIDM2148FCZ1, now FCZ2.
    - A problem within the ADU assembly such as dirty rollers, paper cuts in plastic moulding, transport roller spring tension too loose causing skewing out of door

I have seen many cases where this was the letterhead paper type in use. But..... if you are sure that plain paper also clips the edge over, then check all the above items.

i've come across a very similar problem. does the machine have the internal finisher mx-fnx1?

if so the offset gate may not be located correctly to keep it central to the paper exit path.

this causes dogearing like you describe

Thanks for your help on this.

The paper is definitely turning the corner before the fuser, I opened the door during a copy and managed to stop the paper just in the fuser and the corner had already turned and fused.

It seems that the paper may be catching on a guide fin right above the transfer belt but what I cant understand is why its fine on duplexing and single sided copies. (even using the letterhead stock and calling it plain)

your prob thinking yeah right and if I had not seen it with me own eyes I wouldn't believe it too
