    [Dead] MX-M850 with F1-15

If the tray moves up then gives F1-15 at the top position, that is usually a problem with the top position sensor, as the tray has reached its physical limitation at the top position, but the sensor hasn't stopped the motor from lifting. That is the same case with all Sharp finishers. If the code is on straightaway, the sensor is most likely gone. Run the motor & sensor check in sim 3. Its usually called FTLM (finisher tray lift motor) or something similar. The description is usually the same.
Otherwise, replace the offset tray lift motor (0PPAX050277//). This motor is listed as replacement every 1000K anyway, although I havent needed to change one yet myself with many machines well past that.

        MX-FNX5 F1-15

I too have just started having the sam issue with the same finisher one of me techs went out for a quality issue and after boot up F1-15. I went out and replaced the the paper surface sensor and the lift motor. the code went away but then i noticed that the tray would not go down when a large job was sent, after a few copies a jam occurs when i clear it then i get an F1-15. Im going to try the harness for the paper surface sensor since i noticed that the sensor always stays on even after i trigger it by hand.
If you find a solution PLEASE let me know and i will do the same.

You need to replace the offset tray lift motor (0PPAX050277//). This motor is listed as replacement every 1000K. I changed one two months ago and its been working fine with no F1-15.

Caution: while taking out the last screw of the motor bracket, the exit tray will run down along the rails making a loud noise so support the exit tray before the last screw comes out.

In my case, it was the tray motor.
