Just a few common places I have seen click noises come from on these machines:
If the machine sits for awhile and pressure is on the rollers it can cause flat spots. In most cases it doesn't hurt the copy quality but can get annoying.
The waste toner box can cause a click noise if it is almost full.
The primary transfer belt can also cause click noise when the transfer rollers inside the belt are activating and deactivating.
Hope that helps at least a little...Comment

UPDATE!!today i went back and replaced numerous units.i replaced the fuser unit, primary transfer unit, right hand side duplex and the drums. still clicking noise. mainly clicks at the start of the process and stops when it goes into the fuser unit. noise is coming mainly from the back around the feed station area. clicks from all trays.i also had a H501 code which i reset in the simulation and removed the paper. copy quality is perfect and not effected. what can it be?Comment

Check the black DV unit. It drives the primary transfer as well in these machines, I've had a 2300 with a faulty black DV unit that was clicking incessantly, though it was more of a ratcheting sound, it seemed to be very far gone, and to me it's sounding like yours is starting out as what mine lead to... If you have a spare black DV unit, throw it in there and see if that takes care of it.Cthulhu for president! Why settle for the lesser evil?Comment

Just a suggestion.. Go into sim 6-1 and run some of the motors to see if you get the noise. This is very helpful with a problem like this. You can run the fusing motor, shifter motor, paper feed motor, lift motors, waste toner motor, transport motor and resist motor. Try those and see if the noise comes up on any of them. You can also run sim 6-3 and test out the operation of the Transfer belt and see if it might be making the noise. Did you try any of the suggestions we gave you earlier?Comment

When the toner motors activate they make a clicking noise as they turn the cartriages. I have a 2300 in my show room and it clicks away when i first turn it on while process control runs.Evil will always triumph because good is dumb.Comment

i did replace the black dev unit with no effect. i tried simulation 6-1 and turned on nearly everything, still can not reproduce the sound. it sounds more like a ratchet only when the copy is being made. it cannot be heard when the machine is warming up or adjusting. only when its printing.Comment

You never said you replaced the black dev unit, and your description sounds pretty much identical to mine with the dev unit, though if you say you've already replaced it I don't know what else to suggest.Cthulhu for president! Why settle for the lesser evil?Comment

The secondary transfer belt will make this noise when it is old and getting hard to turn, makes a dull popping noise. If you can't turn the belt by hand with the white gear, this could be the issue. You might also see some color residue on the belt as well.Comment
