    AR-M455N D28 TPFD2ND2 jams

I got a call last week for jamming from the right side of the AR-D28 Tandem tray. They've had the machine for over a year with no problems. They were right that the left side works fine, but the right side jams randomly, sometimes every few pages and others it takes about 25 or so. When it does jam, there's a paper in the paper stop roller just getting to the drum, one sheet in the pull-down feed tray behind the lcc right on the first set of feed tires but not quite to the second set, and one paper in the sep/feed roller of the right side of the tandem tray. Every time it's the same jam TPFD2ND2 (transport sensor 2). All sensors were tested in the SIM mode and work fine. The transport sensor 2 must be working fine because the left side of the tray uses the same sensor when it feeds, so the problem must be before that. I checked all paper paths and cleaned all rubber to no avail, and feed tires are good. All springs for the sensor actuators are fine and in place. I have a working D28 that I used for parts and here's what I did over time.

I switched the 2 feed clutches as a whole unit, wire harnesses from clutches to board, transport sensors 2 and 3, the whole pull-down feed unit that holds the actuators for sensors 2 and 3 that sits above the tandem tray, entire pullout tandem paper feed unit tray, and finally the control PWB. I didn't touch the drive motor since the left side works fine, it must be fine. After each part I replaced, I powered up to see if there was a change. There was not. There was no change at all after all these parts were replaced, still jams randomly from the right side. I didn't touch the main drive motor because it must work if the left side works. I should have just switched out the entire D28 if I would have known it would be this much trouble. Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated.

Replace the Desk #2 exit guide (PGIDM1920FCZ6) and mylar (PSHEP4951FCZZ). I've fixed this only once.
There were three other cases that we replaced every conceivable part, and it wouldn't fix, so we swapped in a different paper deck.

So I've had a 25% success rate. Woo Hoo! =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Look like you changed pretty much everything.

      There's 3 thing i can think about.

      - Loose screw on the Tan sensor pwb (section 8 item 18)

      - Loose screw behind the tandem tray at the end of the shaft who gives the drive to your feed roller (section 9 item 74)

      - This TSB

      Model Name: ARM355N, ARM355U, ARM455N, ARM455U, MXM350N, MXM350U,
      MXM450N, MXM450U, ARD28

      Symptom:
Jam code TPFD2ND2 when feeding from right side tandem tray

      Cause:
Burrs on side door (part # PGIDM1944FCZ1 Parts Guide Section 3 Item
13), located at the lower side of the opening for the follower rollers.

      Action:
Remove the burrs carefully with a file or sandpaper.

Luckily, I have access to several more of these paper desks that as a last case scenario, I can switch.

I'll check those things, but each are a bit of a stretch, and the bulletin shouldn't matter in my case because the paper isn't even getting to the side door when it jams.

        Thanks guys.

          Re: AR-M455N D28 TPFD2ND2 jams

I know this is an old thread, but I wanted to send my thanks for the this fix. Had the same issue (TPFD2ND2) and it turned out to be the mylar (PSHEP4951FCZZ) on the #3 tray. The mylar was dog-eared, so I just shaved off the damaged part and it worked beautifully.

          THANKS AGAIN,
          Buddy
