    Image reduction question

    Does anyone know a way to reduce an image and have it reduce from all 4 sides instead of only 2. On analog machines the image was reduced by moving the lens and you would have all the image centered in the page. On digital machines they reduce it to a corner of the page and you still lose part of the image in the void area. I'm working on an MX5001, but it seems to be the same on any digital machine. Any ideas?

    We have a customer that receives faxes that are almost edge to edge, and then wants to make copies of them. Of course the void area cuts off part of the image.
    I know I should be ashamed of myself. Strangely though, I am not.

      I remember having this discussion with someone else. We came to the conclusion that it does affect all digital machines equally, and that there is no easy answer. =^..^=
      If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
      1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
      2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
      3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
      4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
      5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

          Thanks Blackcat, that was our conclusion too. When we told the customer that this is just how they work, his response was that maybe he just didn't need this machine. I'd really like to tell him, good luck finding one that does it any differently.
          I know I should be ashamed of myself. Strangely though, I am not.

              hi,
              i do not understand very well your question, but if use the funtion image centre+reduce, i think that you can reduce the 4 sides and put in the center paper?

                  I have seen the first exception to the rule. It applies to the Copystar CS-2550, CS-181, CS-221, all with the scan system F or scan system F(B). The features are called "Full Scan" and "Centering".

                  Full Scan creates a scanned document without voids at exactly 100%, edge-to-edge.
                  Centering allows the user to choose left edge (default), or centered (front-to-rear).

                  It's the only machine I've seen with these features. =^..^=

                      -drop the zoom to 95% when copying. It reduces the X and Y axis and keeps the image centered and will pick up the edges. You could even create a button for fax copies only.
                      -if the faxes come from the fax unit on the 5001, there is a soft switch setting for the magnification of faxes when printed. You could adjust this.
                      -adjust the margin settings on the fax to better match the copy function.
                      Failing to plan is planning to fail!!!
