SHARP MXC310 - coloured lines when using doc feeder

    hi all
having a problem with the baby sharp again!!
This time all prints are ok, copies from the glass are ok, but when using the document feeder random coloured lines appear in image area, i took apart the scanner assy and cleaned as much as possible but problem still present. has anyone had a similar problem? first thoughts are to replace the scanner assy
    regards

First thoughts seem logical... I think every Sharp tech will agree that the scanner ass'y on this unit is a giant facepalm.
Cthulhu for president! Why settle for the lesser evil?

seen this on the bigger sharp color copiers, there is some tiny spec of dust in the optics causing the color lines, fought with one for hours once cleaning over and over again b4 it went away, but would have to agree the tiny scanners on the small ones are crap and if u are able just replace it

Where the lines you were having on the bigger machine in roughly the same place or just random anywhere on the page also how big where the lines you had? The lines I'm getting are randomly spaced and also vary in sizes also some appear quite feint whilst others are very noticeable

Had a similar problem on a mx5001n, was dust coming out of the feeder. Random lines only in color.

Cleaning the feeder and playing with some exposure setting did the trick.

How do I adjust the exposure and can the dpi be adjusted for copying?

I would check the slit glass for hazing. If platen copies are OK, the CCD should be good as well. If the slit glass is worn, it can fracture the light and cause random colored lines from the doc feeder. Black is usually uneffected in this scenario. Exposure and dpi can be adjusted from the touch panel, at least on a 2600 it can....

I did notice what looked like wear marks on the slit when I took it apart but seemed to clean off , lines did appear slightly less noticeable but that could have been me hoping they looked better :-s forgot to mention the machine is new

Go with your first thought. Replace the scanner assy. They are cheap enough, it's not worth messing with.
I know I should be ashamed of myself. Strangely though, I am not.

Well hell, if it's new file a warranty claim and be done with it!

have since been told by sharp that the glue used inside the scanner assy has been changed which should cure known faults with them, will have to wait and see when the assy eventually turns up!
