    ARM550 Noise

I have a customer with an ARM550 that is making a rough squeaking noise. It is not consistent sounds like makes a squeak at a certain spot on a gear every rotation.

I used Sim 6-1-4 Main Motor and it is driven by this motor. Also when I push in the bypass door along the back and hold it just at the right position the noise goes away. Then when I release it comes back right away.

I took the bypass door apart and check all the gears there. I cleaned out the clutch in the door and still no change.

    Any suggestions?

The machine still runs fine and the sound seems to be quieter and almost non existent when paper is running. Copy quality is good too.

Pull the fuser out and check the fuser drive gear.

      Here are some common squeaks:

Grinding noise, cyclic once per copy, from all paper sources. Also possible scraping or thumping noises which do not affect copying operations. No extraordinary noise during initial rotations. Worn registration clutch (1.2M, or as little as 400K copies). Visually confirm, inside back cover look for powdered rust spinning off of the clutch. Temporarily swap the inner & outer delrin bushings on the clutch coil. Clean the remaining parts. Replace the registration clutch asap (PCLC-0328FCZZ).

Squeaking noise consistently, whenever printing. To demonstrate noise run simulation 3-3-16. Squeaky finisher idler wheels in section #1. Lubricate the finisher idler wheels in section #1 while running sim 3-3-16.

Squeaking noise consistently, whenever the main motor runs (1.3M). Transfer roller bearings seize, cutting into the shaft. Replace transfer roller, bearings (NBRGY0717FCZZ), holders (NBRGP0734FCZZ).

Squeaking noise consistently, whenever the main motor runs (1.3M). To demonstrate noise run simulation 6-1-33. Pressure roller grid & lower heat roller felt become packed with toner and adhere to their rollers. Replace fuser cleaner kit (AR-700RC). Updated fuser solves this problem.

The first one is the most likely. =^..^=

      1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
      2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.

Try to lub the transport follower roller in the bypass.

Buy a stethiscope or put the point of your screwstick against each shaft and put your ear to the handle.
The problem will be caused by the loudest noise where you have the tip.
Why do they call it common sense?

If it were common, wouldn't everyone have it?

thanks for the tips, The noise is not anywhere near the fuser or registration clutch. and they both seem to by working fine. The noise is coming from opposite side than the fuser and goes away when i push in the bypass door. I am heading back there this am as I had to leave due to school hours yesterday.

Thanks Again. will update as to the fix.
