    AR-286 random high pitch squeal

Just before printing starts, there is a squeal. It's random and it seems the more they use it the less the squeal. It did not make any noise until about noon today. Copy quality looked light on one edge but that is also random. I ran a sky shot and it was nice and black. There was toner in one spot on the transfer corona. I cleaned it but copies still looked light on the edge.
I doubt this has anything to do with it but...About two months ago I had to replace the toner feed roller. I put in new developer at that time. Ran all the simulations and it has been working fine until last Friday.
    Any thoughts?

Usually high random pitch before it copy came in the laser unit or developing unit specially if the unit is little bit hard to rotate and as you said the copies are getting light. Try to clean the bushings...

The LSU will have more whine to the noise, it will drive you crazy trying to hear it, some of us older guys cant hardly hear them anymore, but on the old Cougar machines, which the AR 286 is, it's still noticeable, and when it starts to go bad, it will clear a office its so noisy
A bad DV unit, will be a lot lower in pitch, and you can take it out, turn the main gear on it by hand or with a screwdiver, and most times hear it.
      Hope this helps

Developer checked out fine. After hearing the sound again today I think Its coming from the drum. The cleaning section checks good and the drum is good but I'm thinking cleaning blade. Couldn't hurt to put one in. I'll let you know.
The only paper they run is letter R. That couldn't cause the drum to become too dry on the ends could it?

Re: AR-286 random high pitch squeal

I've come across this before. If the customer runs lots of very low fill copies the drum blade will not get very much toner as dry lubrication at the ends. Cleaning or replacing, then re-priming the blade will solve this problem in the short term. If they're running very low fill it can come back. If allowed to continue the drum blade will flip.

Here are some other possibilities of causes of "squealing":

Squeal from delivery area. Misfeeds (jam code POD1_SU) at fuser exit on AR-285. Bushing on the inner delivery roller slips out of the frame. The delivery roller scrapes against a screw in the delivery unit. Reposition the delivery roller bushing and shim the shaft to keep the bushing in the frame.

Rubbing noise once per copy, of varying intensity on AR-287. Worn paper feed tires. Replace the paper feed tires for the particular port.

Squealing noise from the finisher, with AR-FN2. Finisher flapper arm greasable clutch is dry (no grease). Test for noise in simulation 3-3-DTM. Clean & grease finisher flapper arm clutch with Tefon clutch grease.

            =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
            1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
            2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
            3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
            4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
            5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

I pulled the drum and put toner on it the same way I would as if I was actually installing a new drum blade. The squealing is gone for now. I asked them to run letter rather than letter R.

I think we can throw this one on the solved pile.
Thanks for all the great suggestions.

Hope you got it fixed,if not also by chance lube the scanner rails, a maybe...

I've had some really cheap generic blades squeak years ago on sf-2040 series as well, went to Katun blades on everything, no more squeaking on any blades...
