[Dead] Sharp AR-M451U with error code L4-01

    Hello there,

I would really appreciate some help in diagnosing/fixing a broken photocopier please and thank you.

I have no previous experience of fixing a photocopier so I apologise in advance if it is hardwork explaining something to me. Have already used the search facility for a solution and it seems that it is possible to run a diagnostic test on the motor but could not find detailed instructions (which I will definitely need) on how to do that for this model.

So, my first question is, do I need some sort of "technician" access to the machine in order to run diagnostics? At the moment I only have our deptartment code.

When the machine turns on, it comes up with the box to enter the dept code and this is very quickly replaced with an error L4-01 code (accompanied by a graunching noise), which certainly ties in with a problem with a motor.

As mentioned, any help at all with this would be much appreciated.

    Cheers

You can look at this post http://www.copytechnet.com/forums/sh...0-l4-02-a.html and there are many more like it on this site but if you are not a tech then this problem would best be left with a professional. The code that you are getting is a main motor lock up but the actions in the above post are pretty much the same to fix it.

    Good luck.

Thanks for the reply Bil, appreciate that this would be much better left to a trained person but its either me or the tip for this copier and no money to replace.

Not being familiar with the components or their positions is going to make things fun but I guess there is nothing to lose!

If you're confident in your abilities to resolve it with the above post, you're welcome to try. I must say this is not the place to come back and complain if it winds up worsening your situation however. I don't think you will garner sympathy from anyone for aggravating your problem.

As Bilyahn said, it's best left to a trained technician to avoid further damaging the machine.

I'm sure Paul will post here with an offer for a manual for you, it would be highly recommended you purchase it... Though once again, you will garner no sympathy for worsening your condition, proceed with caution.

          Thanks for the reply Akitu,

There is no "worsening" as it cost nothing and if I cannot fix it will be wheeled to the scrap pile. Am after assistance and guidance and have no intention to whinge is something goes wrong.

Sounds like you have your action plan in place then. The most simplistic thing to check as mentioned in the previous post is how the waste toner bottle fills up faster than the toner bottle empties, and since they're both driven by the same motor it adds a lot of pressure and prevents the drum from turning properly. The waste toner bottle is the hole located on the left hand side of the toner bottle, near the front. Dump some of the toner out of there and reload the cartridge, then turn the machine off and on with the primary power switch to clear your error code.
