    AR-M257 Reader CQ problem

    Hey guys,

Hopefully you guys can help me out with this. I have an AR-M257 that keeps repeating lines on the pages. It only happens when using the reader. Internal prints come out with no problem.
I have run a scanner lamp test, and the lamp looks fine. It moves without any hesitation. I have replaced the Lens unit, but no to no avail. it is 10 years old, and has never had any boards or lamps replaced on it. Only Pm's. It is isn't throwing any codes either.
No usb port, no network expansion kit. it is only used for copies. Let me know what you guys think.ARM257CQ.pdf

    Thanks Guys!

Hi! as you said you've replace Lens, Try the CCD, This kind of lines you attached is not usual if the mirror are dirty or you have a problem in Lamp. Try also to lit the exposure lamp thru program and try to move forward and back the scanner manually and see if the lamp will flicker. try also to clean the reflectors and see if there is some stains in the mirrors. Try to check also the rollers with bearings at the middle attached to the scanner cables.
      Hope this will help...

I had strange lines similar to this on a ARM237 and it was the IMC PWB. Lucky I had 1 to swap out for troubleshooting.

If you had said that it occurred on all copies and prints I would immediately said "laser". But if internal reports and prints are OK, and you've already replaced the CCD, all that leaves you with is the IMC and a few ribbon cables.

It would cost you nothing but time to examine the ribbon cables, and clean the contacts with alcohol or contact cleaner. Also check for obvious breaks. =^..^=

If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
          1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
          2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
          3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
          4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
          5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

So today i revisited the machine. I reseated all of the ribbon cables on the pwb's. i checked all of the ribbon cables, and they look flawless. i wiped the contacts with alcohol. I even reseated the MCU. No luck. i will see if we have another 257 in the warehouse to swap out the IMC Pwb. I will let you guys know the result.

Was your sample a scan of a blank sheet? You could narrow it down further by reducing the image to 50% to see if marks stay the same or reduce.
