    ARM 277 Black copies

Putting this in for a friend who is not computer savy.
Black copies, I told him it has to be charge either not turning on or arcing.
Anyone else who works on this machine run into anything different?
Why do they call it common sense?

If it were common, wouldn't everyone have it?

The first thing to do is to perform a self print, simulation 64-1. If it's a normal self print you know the problem is optical. If the resulting print is black you know it's an engine problem, probably charge related.

By the way its pretty unusual to find solid black copies on an Andromeda. There is no real history of lamp or inverter or CCD problems, but it certainly could be any of those. Or a messed up ribbon cable to the CCD. You have to be pretty careful with the ribbon cables. They get mangled easily.

On the engine side, the only real main charge problems are tech created, by not getting the grid installed properly. Occasionally drum grounding bars can get so bad that the copies look almost solid black, but that should be very easy to diagnose. Just look for the gouge in the drum or 75K+ copies.

That should at least help you get it narrowed down. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
      1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
      2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
      3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
      4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
      5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

I had one with almost totally black copies, but you could still kind of see the image. It was a dust bunny wedged between the screen grid and frame of the main charge. When I went to remove it it was like it had welded itself to the frame.

If the copy lamp lights up, chances are it is the main charge. If it is the main charge you may also see toner dumping. Check to see if the springs are seated correctly on the back of the copier and makes good contact with the drum unit.

Loss of drum ground will also cause this. Make sure there is plenty of conductive grease on the post that sticks into the back of the drum.
