[Misc] Sharp MX-2700N not fusing properly after several sheets

I recently purchased a second hand Sharp MX-2700N.

I find that if I run a single sheet (in color) the copier works great, but if I send multiple copies, about the fifth copy, the toner begins to not fuse to the paper and flakes off and ends up on the back of the next sheet.

At this point, I am sending one sheet at a time and letting it cool a few seconds between sheets, but I have a 1,000 run job coming up and that will not work.

I am running 80# Utopia Digital cover stock

Thank you in advance for any advice or tips

See if that model has a "Fuser Control Setting" - this can be found under System Settings > Device Settings, and set the "Paper Weight" to 23 - 28lbs.
Just read the last part of your post - you'll have to set the paper weight to Heavy 1 or 2.

And make sure the fuser levers aren't set for envelopes.

That stock will have to be run from the bypass tray. and set to heavy 2.

Thank you for the tip. The only place I could set for heavy paper was the bypass tray, but that did solve the problem. Thank you.

Did you try decreasing the output resolution? I ran into this a few weeks ago at a customer's MX-2700. It was smearing all over the page after a couple of copies. I believe the DPI for that model is 600x600. Also try heavy 2 setting or card stock. It worked for me.

                80# cover = 218 gsm = 58# bond

The heaviest media according to the sales literature is 56# bond. Try the heaviest paper setting and lighter media.

That was fascinating to learn. I would love to know the formula you use to convert cover stock weight to bond weight. I'm sure it will be extremely useful in the future.

You should be able to Google paper weight equivalents in reference to grams/meter squared. Most copier companies have it hidden away somewhere.
